Lesson 1: A READING

Week: 1

Period: 3

I OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to understand the passage according to the reading comprehension exercises and talk about their daily routines by learning a typical day of a farmer

II LANGUAGE CONTENTS:

1 Knowledge:

- General knowledge: Guessing meaning in the context, passage comprehension

- Language:

+ New words: Words related to daily routine

2 Skills: Scanning for specific information

III METHOD: - Integrated, mainly communicative

IV TEACHING AIDS: - Picture, board, chalks, textbook, handouts,…

V PROCEDURES:

1 Class organization:

- Greeting

- Checking the attendance

2 Check up:

3 Presenting the new lesson:

- T gives some questions and asks Sts to

answer the questions by speaking

- Sts listen carefully and answer

individually

T gathers all ideas and introduces new

lesson to the whole class

I WARM UP (3’)

1 What time do you get up?

2 What time do you go to school/ have breakfast/ lunch/ dinner/ go

to bed?

3 What do you often do in the morning/ afternoon/ evening?

- T picks out some new words and

explains their meanings

- Sts listen and take notes

- T asks Sts to practice their pronunciation

and reading

- T reads the passages and asks Sts to read

them carefully to do some exercises

- T calls on some Sts to read aloud their

answers and explain their choice

- T correct some mistakes and gives

further explanation in Vietnamese if

necessary

II PRE - READING:

* Vocabulary: (10’)

+ Alarm (n) (alarm clock) + Buffalo (n) a large wild animal that looks like a cow with long

Task 2: Answering questions (5’)

* Expected answers:

a He’s a peasant/ farmer.

b He gets up at 4: 30 and then goes down the kitchen to boil some water for his morning tea

c In the morning, he ploughs and harrows his plot of land, drinks tea and smokes tobacco during his break.

d In the afternoon, they repair the banks of their plot of land Mr.Vy pumps water into it and his wife their does the

transplanting.

- Ask Ss to work in groups and talk about

Mr Vy and Mrs Tuyet/s daily routines

- Call on Ss to give a short talk about the

daily routines of these two farmers

III WHILE – READING: (10’)

* Group work: Talk about Mr Vy and Mrs Tuyet/s daily routines

* Note: This activity can be carried out through the game True or

False Repetition Drill.

- Summaries the main points

IV POST – READING: (5’)

* A brief note about Mr Vy and Mrs Tuyet’s daily routines

In the morning 4:30: the alarm goes off and Mr Vy gets up,

goes down the kitchen, boils water for tea, drinks tea, has quick breakfast, leads buffalo

to field.

5:15: leaves house 5:30: arrives in the field, ploughs and harrows

7:45: takes a break 10:30: goes home 11:30: has lunch with family

In the afternoon 2:30 p.m: Mr.Vy and Mrs Tuyet go to the

field again, repair the banks of the plot of land He pumps water into the plot of land She does transplanting.

6:00 p.m: finish work 7:00 p.m: have dinner

After dinner Watch TV, go to bed

Sometimes visit neighbours, chat with them

- Ss listen and take notes Home work: (2’)- Do exercises in the students’ workbook & learn by heart new

words
