UNIT 9: UNDERSEA WORLD Language focus: Conditional sentence type 2

 Class: Grade 10

 Time allotted: 45 minutes

 Aim:

After the lesson, students are able to use conditional sentence type 2 suitably and correctly

 Teaching aids: pictures, posters, textbook, blackboard

 Warm up:

Game: Kim’s game

- Divide class into 2 teams

- Give instructions

- Check students’ understanding about instructions

- Show 8 pictures

- Ask leader of each team go to blackboard to write down the name of the animal in the pictures

- Check students’ work

 Pre-teach vocabulary

- Elicit and present new words:

+ wallet (n): “What’s this?” (realia) + retire (v): “I’m 60 years old I stopped working at the company What did I do?” (explanation)

+ principal (n): “What do you call the head of a

- Listen to

- Meaning/ Use:

something not real at the present

 Drills:

- Run through vocabulary

- Model 1st cue (say the utterance 3 times) + If/ I/ wind, I/ go/ everywhere

- Get students to repeat the model: choral

 individual repetition

- Work through the rest of cue: new cue, new student (6 cues)

+ If/ I/ pick up/ a wallet, I/ return/ owner

- Ask students to play game: PICK UP APPLES

- Suppose that you are given 3 wishes Write them down and give more than one reason for each wish

For example: To be very rich  If I were very rich, I wouldn’t need to work  If I were very rich, I would buy many jewels

- Do the exercise 3, p 103

- Ask students to prepare for the next class lesson
