Game: “Save the Princess”
-Draw on the board a cave with ways down , the princess is down in the cave
-Divide the class into two groups: Thach Sanh and the moster.(Stick the pictures on the two mouths/ openings of the cave.)
-Read :This is form the King : “ The princess has disappeared Anyone who can find and save her will be allowed to marry her and become the next King of the nation.”
-Then tell SS to save the princess , they have
to read out a 12-letter word by guessing the letters
-The groups take turns to guess the letters ,with a correct letter , they get one step down the cave , if they are faster and can get to the princess and save her ,i.e read the key word, they will win the game
- Ask SS where they can get information about a competition or contest
(Expected: on TV, the radio , in newspapers ,on Web sites,…)
-Ask SS if they want to enter a competition , what kind of information they need to know about it Give prompts to elicit if necessary

Unit 5: Writing a Letter to Ask for or Give Information
Activity 1: Re-ordering (task b,p71-72)
-Tell SS the sentences belong to a letter asking for information about a contest but they are in the wrong order
-Ask SS to work in pairs and put the sentences in a logical order
-Get SS to compare answers in small groups and the go over the answers with the class
Expected answer: c-d-a-e-i-f-g-h
Activity 2:Sequence markers
-Ask SS to read the letter again and discuss how the underline words may have helped them
Expected :-To recognize what comes first and what’s next or to recognize the order of things easier
-Tell SS words like fist , second, next,…and last / finally are sequence markers used to
show the order of things to make it easier to follow
Activity 3:Matching and co-ordering
-Arrange SS to word in 5 groups
-Give each group two sets of cards , one with phrases used in a letter asking for information , and the order with the headings for the parts
of the letter (Appendix 1a)
-Ask SS to work in their groups , match the phrases with the headings and then put them
in a logical order of the letter
-Go over the answer with the class and introduce the general format of a letter asking for information Expected answer:
