UNIT 17: WHAT TOYS DO YOU LIKE?

Lesson 1 (activity 4,5,6)

I Background information:

- Age: 8-9

- Grade: 3

- Number of students: 30-35

- Time: 35 minutes

II Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:

- ask and answer questions about toys, using “What toys do you like?”/

“What does Nam like?”

- pronounce the sounds of the letter ʃ in the word ship.

III Language focus :

- Phonic: the sounds of the letter ʃ in the word ship.

- Vocabulary: playroom (new word)

plane, doll, ship, truck, kite (old words)

- Sentence patterns: What toys do you like?

I like……

- Skills: listening, speaking and writing

- Method: P.P.P

- Teaching aids: powerpoint, toys, flashcards and sound speakers

6 mins 1.Warm-up: Guessing game (review the

vocabulary)

- Tell children the rule of the game using

gestures for illustration:

+ Close the eyes, put the hand into the box

+ Tell the whole class to ask: “What toys do you

like?”

+ Guess and answer the question: “I like…”

- Divide children into two teams A and B

- Invite one volunteer of each group to play rock

paper scissors

- Tell the winner of the group to play the game,

which team wins and answers correctly will get

the point

- Play the game and collect points

- Tell the whole class to clap hands for the

winner

- Look and listen

- Sit in team

- Raise hands to volunteer

- Play and guess the toys in the box

- Clap hands

2 New lesson:

2.1 Activity “Listen and tick”: review the

pattern “What toys do you like?”

- Tell pupils to open their book and that they are

going to listen to some of their friends talking

about “What toys do they like?”

-Give a few seconds for children to look at the

picture and elicit them

- Open the book

- Look carefully and elicit

- Play the recording three times and ask children

to listen the recording to do the task

- Get children to swap with the partners and

check their answers before checking as a class

- Check the answer as the whole class

- Listen carefully and

do the task

- Swap and check their answers then copy

- Check the answers

5 mins 2.2 Activity “Read and write”: read for

pronunciation

- Show the powerpoint animation and elicit

children to guess the information related to the

text

- Allow time for students to read the text in

silence

- Require children read aloud with the teacher

- Look at the picture and answer teacher’s question

- Read in silence

- Read aloud

8mins 2.3 Game “ snap the card”: check children’s

comprehension

- Divide children into the group of six and give

them a set of cards consisting of the words

- Tell children put their hands on the head, listen

the questions, snap the cards quickly and keep it

- Tell the whole class to clap hands for the

children who have more cards than others

- Get children the time to look at the correct

answers on the powerpoint before writing down

- Do choral repetition of the completed

sentences

- Sit in group

- Play the game

- Clap hands

- Check their answers and copy down in the notebooks

- Read aloud

8 mins 2.4 Let’s write: Check spelling and grammar

- Tell children that this is a personalized activity

in which they write their answers using real

facts Give children a few seconds to read the

questions in silence Call a pupil to give a

demonstration of all questions before starting the

activity

- Give children time to do the task

- Tell children to swap and check their answers

before checking as a class Call two children to

write their answers on the board and correct the

spelling and grammatical errors, if necessary
