Khi muốn hỏi ai đó muốn trở thành gì trong tương lai, chúng ta có thể sử dụng Cấu trúc sau: What + would + s + like to be in the future?

Bạn muốn trở thành gì trong tương lai? s + would + like to be + a/an +

muốn trở thành

Chủ ngữ (S) có thể thay bằng: I, you, we, they, she, he, It hoặc danh từ riêng như Khang, Jack, đều được

Ex: What would you like to be in the future?

Bạn muốn trở thành giáo viên

2 Mở rộng cách dùng “would like”

Cụm từ would like có nghĩa là mong muốn và có cách dùng giống với động từ “want”, tuy nhiên would like mang tính lịch sự hơn.

Would like có nghĩa là mời mọc, đề nghị, thể hiện ước muốn.

a) Dùng với từ What để hỏi về ước muốn của ai đó một cách lịch sự: cấu trúc chung:

What + would + s + like?

muốn gì?

Với cấu trúc trên, ta chỉ cần thay vào vị trí chủ ngữ (S) bằng các đại từ như: I, You, We, They, She, He, It hoặc danh từ riêng như Trinh, Peter, là xong một câu hỏi.

Ex: What would you like? Bạn muốn gì?

What would he like? Anh ta muốn gì thế?

So sánh với “want”:

What do you want? (Không lịch sự bằng would like): Bạn muốn gì?

Cách trả lời cho câu hỏi nãy như sau: _

s + would like + N / to-infinitive Sau "would like" là một danh từ (N) hay động từ nguyên mâu

có "to" (to-infinitive) Would like rút gọn thành: ’d like.

Ex: I'd like a cup of coffe

Tôi muốn một tách cà phê

She'd like to go to the cinema tonight

Tối nay cô ấy muốn đi xem phim

Ngoài ra chúng ta có thể sử dụng cấu trúc would like để gọi món trong nhà hàng.

Ex: I'd like a beefsteak with salad Tôi muốn ăn bít tết với rau trộn,

b) Để đề nghị hoặc mời ai đó một cách lịch sự

Cấu trúc chung:

Would you like + N / to infinitive ?

Lưu ý: Theo sau would like là một danh từ hoặc cụm danh từ

Ex: Would you like some milk? Bạn có muốn một ít sữa không?

- Để đáp lại lời mời “Would you like”, ta thường nói:

+ Chấp nhận
