UNIT 5: CAN YOU SWIM?

LESSON 3: Part 1, 2, 3

I Objectives

1 Knowledge

- Pronounce correctly the sound of the letters “s” and that of the letter “sw”

* Language focus:

- Phonics: /s/, /sw/

2 Skills

- Develop listening, reading, writing skills

3 Attitude:

- Be confident

II Teaching aids:

1 Teacher’s: Lesson plan, books, speakers, softbook, projector (4A, 4C), CDs

and computer,

2 Students’: Books, notebooks, workbooks.

III Method

- Listening, speaking and spoken interaction

- Techniques: + Chant

+ Work individually, in pairs/ groups

IV Procedure

1 Organization (1’)

- Greeting

- Checking for the students’ attendance.

2 Warm up (5’)

- Say greetings

- Have Ss play the game in class/ teams/ or group: mine: Ask ss to go to the

board , choose a word card of action, mine it for the class to guess meaning

3 New lesson:

Activity 1: Listen and repeat.(10’)

-Introduce the sounds /s/ and /sw/

- Ps’ attention on the letters colored

differently in the words sing and swim.

Ss learn to produce the sound of the

letters “ s” in the word sing and that of

the letter “sw” in the word swim

- Listen and repeat Read in groups in

1 Listen and repeat.

- Ps practice the sounds carefully

- Some Ss reports the answer The rest

of the class listen and give comments

- Ask ss to find some other words with

the sound have learnt

*Activity 2 Listen and number

Then say aloud.(10’)

- Run through the task then tell ss that

they are going to listen and number the

sentence they hear

- Listen to the recording 2 times and

circle

- Check their guess Compare the

- Check and correct

- Ask ss to practise saying the words

-Ps listen to the tape and chant

- Tell the class that they are going to read a text

and answer the questions

- Run through the text and the questions to
