UNIT 13: Zz LESSON 1: Part 1, 2, 3

I Objective:

1 Language focus:

- By the end of the lesson Ss can recognize and pronounce the letter Zz and its sound

- Understand, recognize and say the three Zz words.

- Write the letter Zz

- Vocabulary: zoo, zebra, zip.

- Sight words:Look a…

2 Skill:

- Listening, speaking, reading, writing

3 Attitude:

- Encourage Ss to use the structure more regulary

II Teaching aids:

- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant

III Method:

- Model – Talk - Practice, individual work, pair work, group work

- Some techniques can be used: music chairs, find it

IV Procedures:

2C Tuesday, April 16th 2018

2 Warm up (5’)

Activity: Make up words

- T put up the phonics cards from the previous unit on the board

- Write the following letters on the board: g, t, y, r, e, o, c, a, l, w, u

- Ask them to write down the words they can make up

- Tell the student to refer to the phonics cards for help

- After a limited time, ask the students to say out the words they made up

3 New lesson:

* Activitiy 1: Listen, point and repeat

Colour(7’)

- T use a card with letter Zz (or write on board the

letter Zz) to introduce to the students the new

lesson

- Instruct students how to pronounce the letter

name and the letter sound by saying: “This is the

letter Zz The letter Zz says /zed/.

- Ask Ss repeat several times and check students’

pronunciation

- T use the phonics cards with zoo, zebra, zip read

the words out loud and have students repeat

a Vocab:

Zoo (explaination)

Zebra (explaination)

Zip (real object)

- T uses gestures to help students to understand the

meanings of the three words

- Stick the cards on board and have students repeat

the words chorally several times (in the correct

order and then in any order)

- Call some students to say the words out loud and

correct their mistakes

- Ss say the words out loud

- Ask the students to colour in the letters

- Ss colour in the letters

Activity: Which One Is Missing?(3’)

- T put the phonics cards face up on the table/stick

them on the board (may use some cards from the

previous lessons)

- Give the students 10 seconds to look at the cards

- Have students close their eyes and then you take

away one cards

- Tell the students to open their eyes and name the

missing cards

Activity 2: Listen and point Colour (7’)

- T points to the van and say: Look A zoo.

- Have students listen and repeat

- Have students look at the book and listen to the

words: zoo, zebra, zip.

- T asks students listen and repeat the words for

several times

- Repeat with the rest of the items in random

order

- Ask the students to look at the pair of pictures on

the side and colour the pictures

- Ss colour the pictures

- T go around the classroom asking students to

name the items they are colouring

E.g: Teacher: (pointing to the zoo) Look A ……

Student: zoo.

Activity 3 Chant and show(7’)

- T put up the lyris of the chant on the board

a Vocab zoo: sở thú zebra: ngựa vằn zip: khóa (quần, áo)

Play Game

2 Listen and point Colour.

- Without music, use the phonics card and step Vv

to sing the chant with van Do the same with

umbrella and ugly

e.g Teacher: /z/

Students: zoo

- Ss listen, chant and T give feedback

- T ask Ss to write the chant in to note book

- Ss write the chant in their notebook

- T ask Ss to do excersise in the work book

- Ss do excersise in the work book

Activity 2: Memory game(5’)

- T put up the cards on the board and ask the Ss to

memorize the order in which the items appear

- Ask Ss to close their eyes and remove the cards

- Change the cards and repeat the activity

Z, z, z, zoo, Zoo, z, z, z!

Z, zebra

Z, z, z, zebra, Zebra, z, z, z!

Z, zip

- Pronounce the letter Zz and its sound correctly.

UNIT 13 : Zz LESSON 2: Part 4, 5

I Objective:

1 Language focus:

- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to practise the sound of the letter Zz

and the coresponding words

- Learn and practise reading skills and sing a song

2 Skill:

- Listening, speaking, reading, writing

3 Attitude:

- Encourage Ss to use the structure more regulary

II Teaching aids:

- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant

III Method:

- Individual work, pair work and techniques can be used: music chairs

IV Procedures:

2 Warm up (5’)

Activity: Pass the phonics card

- T devides Ss in 2 teams (make sure 2 teams have the same number of members)

- T give the first student of each team a phonics card

- T say: ‘Go!” then the students say the words in the card and pass it over their heads

to the student behind them, who continues saying the word and passing the card to the behind one

- The last student in each line races to hand their phonics card to the teacher and says the word

- The first team to do so wins (or wins a point- then continue the game)

3 New lesson:

Activity 1 Listen Read Along(10’)

- T asks Ss: Can you see /z/- Zoo Point to it.

- T encourage the students to point to the picture of

the word that the teacher says

- T plays the CD Have the Ss listen to the story once

- Ss listen to the story once

- Play the CD again The students listen and point to

the pictures of the key words when they hear them in

the story

- Read the story The students follow in their books

- Teacher reads the printed words then let the students

look at the pictures and say the words

- T asks Ss work in pairs One reads while the other

checks, then they swap roles Or one reads the printed

words while the other looks at the pictures and says

the words

- T go around the class to provide any necessary help

Activity: Guess (5’)

- T divide the class into two teams, A and B

- T ask a student from one team to come to the board

- Whisper one of the vocabulary words (from this

unit) to the student

- Without speaking, Ss draw a picture of the word on

the board

- The first team to guess the word correctly wins a

point

- Repeat the activity with a Ss from the other team

- The team with more points wins the game

Activity 2 Song (8’)

- Put up the zoo, zebra, zip phonics cards up on the

board

- Point to the zooand zebra and say: The students

4 Listen Read along

I have a yo – yo.

It is yellow.

I have a yacht.

It is yellow, too.

I like my yellow yo – yo And my yellow yacht!

5 Song

- Follow the same procedure and present the rest of

the song

- Play the CD The students listen and sing along

- Play the CD again The pupils sing and do

corresponding actions Play the CD again The

students listen and hold up the corresponding picture

cards

Activity: Correct teacher (5’)

- T prepare some phonics cards (from this lesson and

previous unit)

- T ask individual student to correct teacher’s

statements

e.g Teacher: (pointing to the yacht) This is a zebra in

a yo -yo.

Student 1: No! in a zoo!etc

This is a zebra in a zoo Look at the funny zebra This is a zebra in a zoo, Look at the funny zebra.

This is a zebra with a zip Look at the funny zebra This is a zebra with a zip, Look at the funny zebra.
