UNIT 2: Oo LESSON 1: Part 1, 2

I Objective:

1 Language focus:

- By the end of the lesson Ss recognize and pronounce the letter Oo and its sound correctly

- Understand, recognize and say the three Oo words

- Write the letter Oo

- Vocabulary: olive, orange, octopus.

- Sight words: this is…

2 Skill:

- Listening, speaking, reading, writing

3 Attitude:

- Encourage Ss to use the structure more regulary

II Teaching aids:

- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant

III Method:

- Model – Talk - Practice, individual work, pair work, group work

- Some techniques can be used: music chairs

IV Procedures:

1 Organization:

- Greeting

- Check student attendence.

2 Warm up (5’)

Activity: Hot Cards

- T asks students sit down

- T hand out the phonics card from the previous unit

- T play the song from Lesson 2 Unit 1 (Track 06)

- While the song is playing, the students pass the phonics card around T stop the song, the student holding the phonics card must say that word

- T monitors and corect their mistake

3 New lesson ( 30’ )

* Activitiy 1: Listen, point and repeat

Colour(8’)

- T introduction of letter o, Its sound and how to

pronounce the words beginning with Oo

1 Listen, point , repeat

Colour.

a Vocab:

olive( picture)

orange( explaination)

octopus( picture)

- T use a card with letter Nn or write on the

board the letter Nn to introduce to the students

the new lesson

- Ask students how to pronouce the letter name

and the letter sound by saying “ This is the

letter Oo The letter o makes the / / sound

- Ss listen and repeat

- T ask Ss to repeat several times and check

student’s pronunciation(letter Oo / / and its

sound

- Ss work in group

- Ss work individually

- Ss look the cards and repeat

- T use gestures (hand actions ) to help students

to understand the meanings of the three words

- Ss check the meaning and repeat

- T check student’s understanding T says the

words,all ss do actions and vice versa

- T call some Ss to say the words out loud and

correct their mistakes

- Ss remember the cards

*Activity: Where the letter (7’)

- T ask ss to work in groups T hangs out the

photographs about the story and ask Ss to circle

the letter

- Ss listen to the teacher and to circle the right

letter

- T gives the time

- T corrects and praise the winner

Activity 2: Listen and point Choose (8’)

- T asks students look at the book and listen to

the words: an orange, an olive, an octopus

- Have students listen and repeat the words for

several times

- T put up the phonics cards on the board

- T point to the orange card and say: This is an

orange

- T ask the students come to the board

- Ss point to the phonics card and say: This is

an………

- T monitors and give feedback

Activity: Jumping Game (7’)

- T puts a line of masking tape on the floor

- T designate one side True and the other False

- T hold up a phonics card (e.g: octopus) and

say: octopus

- Ss jump on the True side

- T hold up another phonics card (e.g: olive)

and say: nut

- Ss jump on the False side

- Do the same with another phonics card

- The students who end up on the wrong side sit

out

- Give feedback

- Ss to review the letter Nn and the words Nut, Net, Nest.

3 New lesson ( 30’ )

Activity 3 Chant and show(15’)

- T put up the lyris of the chant on the board

- Without music, use the phonics card and step

Ss to sing the chant with Olive Do the same

with nand nest

- Ss listen and chant

- With music, the whole class sing the whole

chant Do the chant again using gestures for

eacg word

- T give feedback

- T ask Ss to write the chant in to note book

- Ss write the chant in their notebook

- T ask Ss to do excersise in the work book

- Ss do excersise in the work book

Activity(7’)

- T divides the class into 3 groups (olive,

orange, octopus)

- Each group says the appropriate chant while

the rest of the class claps

- T asks the groups to show their corresponding

picture cards while they chant

- T asks whole class to read the chant aloud

- Ss read the chant aloud
