UNIT 4: Qq LESSON 1: Part 1, 2, 3

I Objective:

1 Language focus:

- By the end of the lesson Ss recognize and pronounce the letter Qq and its sound correctly

- Understand, recognize and say the three Qq words

- Write the letter Qq

- Vocabulary: question, quilt, queen.

- Sight words: Ask a…

2 Skill:

- Listening, speaking, reading, writing

3 Attitude:

- Encourage Ss to use the structure more regulary

II Teaching aids:

- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant

III Method:

- Model - Talk - Practice, individual work, pair work, group work

- Some techniques can be used: music chairs

IV Procedures:

1 Organization:

2B Tuesday, October 22nd 2019

2 Warm up (5’)

- T put up the phonics cards from the previous unit (pen, pony, panda, parrot) on the board

- T write the letters of the words around them in random order

- Ask the students to write the words in their notebooks

- T monitors and corect their mistake

3 New lesson (30’)

*Activitiy 1: Listen, point and repeat Colour (8’)

- T introduction of letter Q, Its sound and how to

pronounce the words beginning with Qq

a Vocab:

question (picture)

queen (explaination)

quilt (picture)

- T use a card with letter Qq or write on the board

the letter Nn to introduce to Ss the new lesson

- Ask Ss how to pronouce the letter name and the

letter sound by saying “This is the letter Qq The

- Ss listen and repeat

- T ask Ss to repeat several times and check

understand the meanings of the three words

- Ss check the meaning and repeat

- T check student’s understanding T says the words,

*Activity: Where the letter (3’)

- T ask Ss to work in groups T hangs out the

photographs about the story and ask Ss to circle the

letter

- Ss listen to the teacher and to circle the right

letter

- T gives the time

- T corrects and praise the winner

Activity 2: Listen and point Colour (5’)

- T asks students look at the book and listen to the

words: Ask a question.

- Have students listen and repeat the words for

several times

- T put up the phonics cards on the board

- T point to the orange card and say: This is an

orange

- T ask the students come to the board

- Ss point to the phonics card and say: Ask

a………

- T monitors and give feedback

Activity: Jumping Game (4’)

- T puts a line of masking tape on the floor

- T designate one side True and the other False

- T hold up a phonics card (e.g: question and say:

question.

- Ss jump on the True side

- T hold up another phonics card (e.g: question) and

say: queen.

- Ss jump on the False side

- Do the same with another phonics card

- The students who end up on the wrong side sit

Activity 3 Chant and show (7’)

- T put up the lyris of the chant on the board

- Without music, use the phonics card and step Ss

to sing the chant with Question Do the same with

Queen and Quilt

- Ss listen and chant

- With music, the whole class sing the whole chant

Do the chant again using gestures for eacg word

- T give feedback

- T ask Ss to write the chant in to note book

- Ss write the chant in their notebook

- T ask Ss to do excersise in the work book

- Ss do excersise in the work book

Activity (3’)

- T divides the class into 3 groups (question, queen,

quilt).

- Each group says the appropriate chant while the

rest of the class claps

- T asks the groups to show their corresponding

picture cards while they chant

- T asks whole class to read the chant aloud

- Ss read the chant aloud

3 Chant and show

V Summary:

- Pronounce the letter Qq and its sound correctly.

UNIT 4: Qq LESSON 2: Part 4, 5

I Objective:

- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to practise the sound of the letter Qq and the coresponding words

- Learn and practise reading skills and sing a song

Vocabulary: review

Sight words: ask, a, the, with, today.

2 Skill:

- Listening, speaking, reading, writing

3 Attitude:

- Encourage Ss to use the structure more regulary

2 Warm up (5’)

- T show the phonics cards, ask students to do corresponding actions then say the sound of the letter and words

E.g Teacher: (show the ‘question’ card) Say question.

Class: question.

3 New lesson (30’)

Activity 4 Listen Read along (10’)

- T encourage the students to point to the picture

of the word that the teacher says

- T play the CD and ask Ss to listen to the story

once

- T play the CD again

- Ss listen and point to the pictures of the key

words when they hear them in the story

- T read the storyand ask Ss follow their books

- Teacher reads the printed words then let the

students look at the pictures and say the words

- Ss look at the pictures and say the words

- T ask students work in pairs One reads while

the other checks, then they change roles Or one

reads the printed words while the other looks at

the pictures and says the words

- Ss to work in pairs

Activity: Say the Sight Words (3’)

- T point to and say the sight words: this, is, an,

with, and

- Ss listen and repeat

- T calls some students read them aloud

Activity: Memory Game (5’)

- T put up the phonics cards on the board

- T ask the students to memorise the order in

which the items appear

- T remove the phonics cards

4 Listen Read along:

- T ask a student to name the items in the correct

order

- Do the same procedure with changing the

order of the phonics cards

Activity 5 Song (7’)

- T puts the olive, orange and octopus phonics

cards up on the board

- T point to the quilt and say: “A quilt for the

queen!” And let’s Ss repeat

- Follow the same procedure and present the rest

of the song

- T play the CD and let’s Ss listen, sing along

- T play the CD again

- Ss sing and do corresponding actions

Activity: Step on It Game (5’)

- T puts the phonics cards in a circle on the

floor

- Play the song (Track 12)

- Ss walk around the cards

- T stop the music and name an item on one of

the cards (e.g: question)

- Ss race to step on that orange card

- The first student to step on it is the winner

and name the card missing

5 Song

V Summary:

- Pronounce the letter Qq and its sound correctly.
