UNIT 4: Dd LESSON 3: Part 6, 7

I Objective:

1 Language focus:

- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to practise the sound of the letter Dd and the coresponding words

- Learn and practise reading skills

Vocabulary: doll

2 Skill:

- Listening, speaking, reading, writing

3 Attitude:

- Encourage Ss to use the structure more regulary

II Teaching aids:

- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant

III Method:

- Model – Talk - Practice, individual work, pairs work, group work

- Some techniques can be used: Thumbs Up or Down, Speed Race.

IV Procedures:

1 Organization:

2 Warm up (5’)

Activity: Guessing game

- T divide the class into 2 teams, A and B

- T calls Ss come to the board

- Whisper one of the target vocabulary words (dog, drum, dragon,…) to him/her.

- Without speaking, the student draws a picture of the word on the board

- The first team to guess the word wins a point

- Repeat the activity with as many students as necessary

- T monitor and coreect their mistake

3 New lesson ( 30’ )

Activity 6 Circle the pictures of the words

that start begin with the same sound (10’)

- T use the phonics card to elicit the pictures

starting the /æ /, /b/, and /d/ sounds.

- T ask Ss to circle the pictures of the words

that begin with the same sound

Activity: Thumbs Up or Down (5’)

6 Circle the pictures

of the words that start begin with the same sound

Play game

Circle the picture

- T ask Ss to put their thumbs up if the pictures

of words that begin with the corresponding

sounds

e.g Teacher: (point to the picture of dragon)

It starts with /d/ sound Up or Down?

Class: (putting their thumbs up)

Teacher: Good! (pointing the picture dog) It

starts with /k/ sound? Up or Down?

Activity 7 Listen, point and repeat Colour

the pictures of the words that start with the d

sound Say the d words (10’)

- T show the students the omelette phonics

card Point to it and say: doll Ask them to

repeat

- Mime cracking and beating eggs and say

doll

- T point to the pictures, the students do

corresponding actions and say the words

- T divide the class into groups of two

- The first student point to the pictures and the

other student say the word then change the

roles

- T ask the students to colour in the pictures of

the words that start with the sound

Activity: Speed Race (5’)

- T put 3 chairs in front of the board

- T devides Ss into 3 teams of 5, A, B and C

- T aks Ss from each team stand up

- T put a phonics card on each chair

- T call out one of the phonics cards

- T monitor and pride the winer

7 Listen, point and repeat Colour the pictures of the words that start with the d sound Say the d words.

I Objective:

- Listening, speaking, reading, writing

3 Attitude:

- Encourage Ss to use the structure more regulary

IV Procedures:

2 Warm up (5’)

Acitivity: Odd – one – out game

- T put a set of phonics cards on the board plus an ‘odd’ one from another set

- T point to each card in turn and say the word for the class to repeat in chorus

- Take away the odd card from the board

- Repeat as many times as necessary

3 New lesson

Activity 1 Trace and say (Activity Book) (5’)

- let’s Ss revision of letter D, its sound

- T write on the board the big D and small d

- Point to the letter D and say out loud “This is

the letter D.

- Point to the letter d and say out loud “This is

the letter d

- T ask Ss to repeat its sound chorally,

individually

- T ask Ss to say the sound individually, correct

the pronunciation

Activity: How to write letter D (5’)

- Demonstrate how to write the big D by stroke

- Draw an example of letter D using dashed lines

- Use a different colored chalk to model tracing

the letter D

- Have some students practice tracing letter D on

the board

- Have students trace letter D in the books

- Students say after each finished letter.

- Go around to give help if necessary

Activity 2: Trace and match (5’)

- T tell Ss that you are going to write the letter

Aa, Bb, Cc and Dd into the box.

- T demonstrate the writing

- T draw linesto the correct pictures that

correspond to each letter

Activity 3: What are they? Join the dots and

colour Then match (8’)

- Display some phonics card on the board, one of

which contains the /d/ sound.

- T say /d/ sound and have the students point to

the card that contains the sound

- Ask Ss to say the words that start with /d/

sound

- T ask Ss to join the dots to complete the

pictures and colour them then match the pictures

to the correct sentences below

Activity 4: Tick (ü) the pictures of the words

that start with the d sound (7’)

- T ask Ss to tick the items that start with the d

sound

- T corect their mistake

2 Trace and match

Answer keys:

1 Aa – acrobat

2 Bb– bed

3 Cc – car

4 Dd - doll

Activity 3: What are they? Join the dots and colour

Then match

Answer keys:

1 It is a drum.

2 It is a dog

3 It is a dragon.

4 Tick (ü) the pictures of the words that start with the d sound

Answer keys:

the students tick items 1, 3, 4, and 6
