UNIT 4: Dd LESSON 1: Part 1, 2, 3

I Objective:

1 Language focus:

- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to recognize and pronounce the letter

Dd and its sound correctly

- Understand, recognize and say the three Dd words

- Write the letter Dd

Vocabulary: dog, drum, dragon.

Sight words: look

2 Skill:

- Listening, speaking, reading, writing

3 Attitude:

- Encourage Ss to use the structure more regulary

II Teaching aids:

- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant

III Method:

- Model – Talk - Practice, individual work, pair work, group work

IV Procedures:

1 Organization:

1D Wednesday, October 24th 2018

2 Warm up (5’)

Activity: Memory game

- T put the phonics cards (from Unit 1 to 3) on the board

- T ask Ss to memorize the order of these cards

- T ask Ss to close their eyes, remove one phonics card randomly and ask individual students to name it

- Continue changing the other cards

3 New lesson:

Activitiy 1: Listen, point and repeat Colour

(7’)

- T introduction of letter D, Its sound and how

to pronounce the words beginning with Dd

- T use a card with letter Nn or write on the

board the letter Dd to introduce to the students

the new lesson

- Ask students how to pronouce the letter

name and the letter sound by saying “ This is

the letter Dd /di:/ The letter N makes the / d/

sound

1 Listen, point , repeat.

- Ss listen and repeat

- T ask Ss to repeat several times and check

student’s pronunciation(letter Dd /di:/ and its

sound

- Ss work in group

- Ss work individually

- Ss look the cards and repeat

- T use gestures (hand actions ) to help

students to understand the meanings of the

three words

- Ss check the meaning and repeat

- T check student’s understanding T says the

words,all ss do actions and vice versa

- T call some Ss to say the words out loud and

correct their mistakes

- Ss remember the cards

Activity: Where’s the Letter (4’)

- T ask Ss to work in pair

- T hand out photocopies of pages from some

story books

- T ask Ss to find and circle the letter Dd on

these pages in 2 minutes

- The pair that has circled the most Dds will be

winners

Activity 2 Listen and point Colour (10’)

- T ask Ss to look at the books and listen to the

drill: It is a

- T point to the picture of dog and say: It is a

dog And ask Ss to repeat

- Follow the same procedure and present the

rest of pictures

- T play the CD While the CD is playing, ask

Ss to point to the corresponding picture and

repeat

- T ask Ss repeat by using the phonics cards of

dog, drum, dragon combining with gestures

- T ask Ss to colour the drum using any colour

they like

Activity 3 Chant and show(5’)

- T put up the lyrics of the chant on the board

- Without music, use the phonics cards and

step students to sing the chant with dog Do

Activity: Writing in the air(3’)

- T show the letter Dd again, have students

write the Dd in air with their fingers

- Model-Talk-Practice, individual work, pair work,group work

IV.Procedures:

1 Organization:

1D Thursday, October 25th 2018

2 Warm up (5’)

- T choose 4 students

- T give individual students each phonics cards (Dd, dog, drum, dragon)

- Allow them 1 minute tosay the sound of the letter and words and do actions

e.g Student 1: (holding the dog card) /d/ dog, imitating barking.

3 New lesson.

Activity 4 Listen Read along(10’)

- T encourage Ss to point to the picture of the

word that the teacher says

- T play the CD and ask Ss to listen to the

story once

- Play the CD again Ss listen, point to the

pictures of the key words when they hear them

in the story

- T read the story Ss follow their books

- T reads the printed words then let Ss look at

the pictures and say the words

- T asks Ss work in pairs One reads while the

other checks, then they change roles Or one

reads the printed words while the other looks

at the pictures and says the words

Activity: Say the Sight Words (5’)

- T point to and say the sight words: look, at,

the and ask Ss to repeat.

- T call on some Ss read aloud and correct

pronunciation (if any)

Activity 5 Song(10’)

- T put the dog, drum and dragon phonics

cards up on the board

- T point to the dragon, the drum and say: “It

is a dragon with a drum, boom, boom-boom”

- Ss repeat

- Follow the same procedure and present the

rest of the song ( Ss can turn to page 72)

- T play the CD Ss listen and sing along

- T play the CD again Ss sing and do actions

Activity: Correct the Teacher (5’)

- T hold up the phonics cards, one at a time

- Ask individual students to correct teacher’s

statement

e.g Teacher: (holding up dog card) It is a cat!

Student 1: No! It is a dog! etc.
