STORY TIME

I Objective:

1 Language focus:

- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to consolidate to consolidate the sound of the letters Ee, Ff, Gg, Hh and the corresponding words

- Learn and practise reading skills and sing a song

2 Skill:

- Listening, speaking, reading, writing

3 Attitude:

- Encourage Ss to consolidate the sound of the letter Ee, Ff, Gg, Hh and the

coresponding words

II Teaching aids:

- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant

III Method:

- Model-Talk-Practice, individual work, pair work, group work

- Some techniques can be used: music chairs

IV.Procedures:

1 Organization:

1D Wednesday, January 30th 2019

2 Warm up (5’)

*Activity: Bingo game

- T prepare some bingo cards with the words in unit 5-8 and hand them out to the students (Each bingo card should have a different set of words)

- T say the words or show the pictures and have the students put a tick into the pictures in their bingo card

- The winner is the first student whose card is full of tick and who show Bingo

3 New lesson (30')

Activity 1 Listen Read along (10’)

- T prepare phonics cards of these word:

hippo, elf, garden, fish and frog.

- T ask Ss to read out the words

- T invite Ss to guess what they think the story

is about

- T ask Ss to open and look at the book

- T ask them questions about what they can see

in the pictures:

E.g: Teacher:(pointing to the elf in picture 1)

Look! What’s this?

Teacher: (pointing to the hat in picture 1) A

happy hippo with a ….

Class: hat! etc

- T play the CD and ask Ss to listen, pointing

to the pictures of the key words

- T play CD again for the students to repeat

- T ask individual Ss to read the story aloud

Activity: Extension ( 5')

- T ask Ss to close their book

- T read out a few sentences from the story and

ask Ss to complete them

e.g Teacher: look at my…

Class: garden! etc

Activity: What is in the hippo’s garden?

Draw lines (10')

- T explain the activity

- T ask Ss to draw lines from the items to the

hipp’s garden

- T ask individuals to name the items

Activity: Act Out (5')

- T read the sentences in the story, pause at the

key words

- T invite Ss to mime them (the hippo, the elf,

the garden, the fish, the frog).

- T ask Ss come to the front of the classroom

and act out the story

- T encourage them to have fun as they

perform

- Encourage Ss to use the structure more regulary

II Teaching aids:

- Book, CD, phonics cards

III Method:

- Model – Talk - Practice, individual work, pair work, group work

- Some techniques can be used: music chairs

IV Procedures:

2 Warm up (5’)

Activity: Act out

- T show the phonics cards

- The students look at the cards and do the gestures following the cards

3 New lesson (30’ )

pictures (5')

- T ask the students to name the items

- Ss use the code to colour each item

according to its initial sound

- T go around providing necessary help

Activity 3: Says the words Cross the odd

one out (8')

- T ask Ss to name the items

- Ss say the words for each picture and cross

out the one that has a different initial sound

- T go around the classroom providing any

necessary help

Activity 4: Listen and tick () (5' )

- T ask Ss say the names of the items.

- T play the CD for Ss listen and tick () yes

or no

Activity: Draw the pictures (6')

- T divide class into two teams

- The teams take it turn to send a student to

the board

- Students try to illustrate it by drawing the

pictures so that their team can identify

- If their team recognizes the word, they get 1

point

- The team with the most points wins
