UNIT 8: Hh LESSON 1: Part 1, 2, 3

I Objective:

1 Language focus:

- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to recognize and pronounce the letter

Hh and its sound correctly

- Understand, recognize and say the three Hh words

- Write the letter Hh

Vocabulary: hat, hen, hippo

Sight words: with, a, haha.

2 Skill:

- Listening, speaking, reading, writing

3 Attitude:

- Encourage Ss to use the structure more regulary

II Teaching aids:

- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant

III Method:

- Model – Talk - Practice, individual work, pair work, group work

IV Procedures:

1 Organization:

- Greeting and check student attendence

1D Wednesday, January 9th 2019

2 Warm up (5’)

- Greet the students by saying: Hello class

- Have students play a game: toss the envelop

- Give instruction for the game The students will get an envelope with the previous flash cards inside While teacher plays the music, student tosses the envelop to the next person When the music stop, the student who is holding the envelop has to pick out one flash card and read aloud If the student reads correctly, continue to toss the envelop If the student reads incorrectly, he/she has to dance following a song then

3 New lesson (30')

* Activitiy 1: Listen, point and repeat

Colour (7’)

- T introduction of letter H, Its sound and

how to pronounce the words beginning with

Hh

- Instruct the students how to pronounce the

a Vocab hat: cái mũ hen: con gà mái hippo: con hà mã

letter name and the letter sound by saying:

“This is the letter H /eɪtʃ/ The letter H

says /h/.”

- Repeat several times and check students’

pronunciation (letter H /eɪtʃ/ and its

sound /h/)

- Use the phonics cards with hat, hen, and

hippo, read the words out loud and have

students repeat

- Stick the cards on board and have the

students repeat the words chorally several

times (in the correct order and then in any

order)

- Call some students to say the words out

loud and correct their mistakes (if any)

*Activity: Sit and Stand Game (3')

- Show the 3 phonics cards one by one For

example, show the card with hen, but

incorrectly say hippo or hat, the students

will stand; if the words are correctly said,

they will stay sitting

- Do the same procedure for the other two

cards

- Give feedback

Activity 2 Listen and point Colour (5’)

- T point to the hen with a hat and say: a

hen with a hat.

- T ask Ss to listen and repeat the expression

for several times

- Do the same procedure for the hippo with

the hat.

- T play the CD

- Ss listen and point to the hen, hat and

hippo

*Activity: coloring (2')

- Ask Ss to open the activity book, on page

51, trace and colour the letter Hh

*Acting out game: optional (3')

- Says the words hen; the students do the

gestures following teacher’s talk (not

teacher’s action)

- Continue with the other words

- Students who do incorrectly have to sing

or dance or do any other requests

Activity 3: Chant and show! (4')

- Use the phonics cards on the board and

have the students sing the chant with hat

Do the same with hen and hippo.

- The whole class sings the whole chant Do

the chant again using gestures for each

word

- Give feedback

Activity: Writing in the air (4')

- Show the letter Hh again, have Ss write

the Hh in air with their fingers

I Objective:

IV.Procedures:

1 Organization:

1D Thursday, January 10th 2019

2 Warm up (5’)

Activity: Where is the letter?

- T divide Ss into three groups

- Deliver photocopies of pages from some story books for each group

- Ss search and circle the letter Hh on these pages in 3 minutes

- The winner is the group that circles the most Hh

3 New lesson (30')

Activity 4 Listen Read along (10’)

- T play the CD and ask Ss to listen to the

story once

- Play the CD again Ss listen and point to the

pictures of the key words when they hear them

in the story

- T read the story Ss follow their books

- T reads the printed words then let Ss look at

the pictures and say the words

- T asks Ss work in pairs One reads while the

other checks

Activity: Say the Sight Words (5’)

- T point to and say the sight words: look, at,

the, in, my and ask Ss repeat.

- T calls Ss to read them aloud

Activity 5 Song (10’)

- T put the hat, hen and hippo phonics cards up

on the board

- T point to the hippo with the hat and say: “a

hippo with a hat” Ss repeat

- Follow the same procedure and present the

rest of the song

- T play the CD for Ss listen and sing along

- T pay the CD again for Ss to sing and do

corresponding actions

- T put the phonics cards face up on the

table/stick them on the board

- T gives Ss a minute to look at the cards

- T ask Ss close their eyes and then you take

away one cards

- T tells Ss to open their eyes and name the

missing cards
