UNIT 7: Gg LESSON 3: Part 6, 7

I Objective:

1 Language focus:

- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to practise the sound of the letter

Gg and the coresponding words

Vocabulary: gorilla.

2 Skill:

- Listening, speaking, reading, writing

3 Attitude:

- Encourage Ss to use the structure more regulary

II Teaching aids:

- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant

III Method:

- Model – Talk - Practice, individual work, pair work, group work

- Some techniques can be used: Craftwork, Thumbs Up or Down

IV.Procedures:

1 Organization (1’).

2 Warm up (5’)

*Activity: “Word chain game”

- Put phonics cards of the previous units on the board (e.g egg, elf, elephant,

elbow, glass, goat, garden, …)

- Point to the student He/She says the first word in the sequence

- Point to another student He/She repeats the previous word, then says the next word in the sequence

- Continue with each student saying the next word in the sequence

e.g.: Student 1: egg.

Student 2:egg, elf.

Student 3: egg, elf, elephant.

3 New lesson.

- Point to the letters and revise the g sound

- T ask Ss to look at the pictures and circle

the letters Gg

- T go around for helping

Activity: Thumbs Up or Down (7’)

- Number the apples in exercise 6 from one

to six

- T asks Ss to put their thumbs up if the

apple has Gg in it and put their thumbs

down if the glass does not have Gg in it

e.g Teacher: (point to the glass number

one in the book) Glass number one Up or

Down?

Class: (putting their thumbs up)

T: Good! And garden number two? Up or

Down?

Activitiy 7 Listen, point and repeat

Colour the pictures of the words that start

with the g sound Say the g word (8’)

- T shows Ss the acrobat phonics card

Point to it and say: gorilla Ask them to

repeat

- Mime trying to keep balance and say:

acrobat Encourage Ss to do the same

- T point to the pictures, Ss do the

corresponding actions and say the words

- T asks Ss to colour the pictures of the

words that start with the a sound

Activity: Craftwork (7’)

- T asks Ss to take out their notebooks

- Ss choose one word then draw the letter

and the picture in their notebooks

- T tell them to colour the letter and the

picture

I Objective:

- By the end of the lesson, Review the sound of the letter Gg, three Gg words

and recognize the corresponding pictures.Write the letter Gg

2 Skill:

- Listening, speaking, reading, writing

3 Attitude:

- Encourage Ss to use the structure more regulary

II Teaching aids:

- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant

III Method:

- Model – Talk - Practice, individual work, pair work, group work

- Some techniques can be used: music chairs

IV.Procedures:

2 Warm up (5’)

- Put a line of masking tape on the floor and designate one side True and the other False

- Hold up a phonics card, e.g egg and say: egg Then Ss jump on the True side

- Hold up another phonics card, e.g elf and say: ant Ss jump on the False side

- Ss who end up on the wrong side sit out until the next game

3 New lesson.

- T write on the board the big G and small g

- Point to the letter G and say out loud “This

is the letter G / dʒiː / The letter G says /g/”

- Point to the letter g and say out loud “This

is the letter g / dʒiː / The letter g says /g/”.

- T asks SS repeat its sound chorally, then

individually

- T asks Ss say the sound individually,

correct the pronunciation

- Demonstrate how to write the big G by

stroke

- Draw an example of letter G using dashed

lines

- Use a different colored chalk to model

tracing the letter G

- T asks Ss practice tracing letter G on the

board

- Asks Ss trace letter G in the books

Activity 2: Trace and match (7')

- T tell Ss that you are going to write the

letter Ee, Ff and Gg into the box

- T demonstrate the writing

- T draw lines to the correct pictures that

correspond to each letter

- T go around the classroom and providing

any necessary help

Activity 3: Write the letter Gg Tick () the

pictures that begin with the g sound (9')

- Hold up the phonics cards one at time

- Ask students to confirm the word you say

by putting their thumbs up or down and give

the correct answer

e.g Teacher: (holding up the glass phonics

card) goat

Class: (putting their thumbs down) Glass

- Ask students to name the pictures

- Ask the student to the letter Gg in the

space provided

- Then ask them to look at the pictures and

tick the ones whose names begin with the g

sound

Activity 4: What is it? Colour the Gg

letters and say (7')

- Ask students to look at the picture, colour

the letters, say the letter and the sound

- T go around and provide any necessary

help
