Lesson 4: Read

I Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

 Read and understand the text about the problems of people from the countryside moving to the city

 They will also be able to complete the summary

IV Procedure:

1 Warm up (7 minutes)

- Ask Ps some questions:

? Do you think many people move to live in

the city?

? Why do they want to go to the city?

? What problems may arise when so many

people move to the city?

- Answer T’s questions

- Discuss in groups

- Give answers

2 Pre reading (10 minutes)

* Pre – teach new words

- Guide Ss to I New words: + rural (a)

+ well – paying (a) + plentiful (a)

+ struggle (n) + typhoon (n) + flood (n) + drought (n)

- Guide Ss to practice the new words

- Give the game of “R.O.R” to check

- Ask Ss to listen to the tape then answer

the question: “What do many farmers do to

solve their problems?”

- Practice in chorus

- Practice individually

- Write down

- Play the game in two teams

- Listen to the tape then answer the guiding question: They move to the city so that they can get well-paid jobs.

IV Procedure:

1 Warm up (7 minutes)

- Ask Ps some questions:

+ Do you usually write letters?

- Answer T’s questions

+ How often do you write a letter?

2 Pre – writing (10 minutes)

- Have Ps look at the text book and read

the out line then compare with the one in

Unit 5 again then have them put the out line

in order

- Have Ps work in groups of four students to

write a letter by answering the questions

below:

? Where do you live?

? What does your house look like?

? What can you see from your bedroom

window?

? How far is it from your house to school?

? How do you get to school?

? What kinds of facilities are there in your

neighborhood?

? What thing in your neighborhood do you

like best? Why?

- Look at the book

- Read the outline of the letter

1 Put the outline for an informal letter in the correct order

- Heading: + Writers address

- Opening

- Body of letter

- Closing

- Work in four groups to prepare for writing

by answering the questions on the draft

3 While – writing (18 minutes)

- Ask Ss to work in four groups to write

their letters on the posters

- Ask Ss to hang the posters on and call

some Ss remark

- Correct the mistakes

- Call some Ss to read the correct letters

- Write letters in 4 groups

- Hang the posters on and give the ideas about each letter of each group
