I Grammar:

Chúng ta đã được học cấu trúc:

- There is : có một  There is a book on the table (Có 1 quyển sách trên bàn.)

- There are : có nhiều  There are two pens on the table (Có 2 cây bút trên bàn.) Hai cấu trúc trên dùng trong câu hiện tại

Để diễn đạt khi dùng trong quá khứ, chúng ta chuyển thành “There was ” và “There were ”

There is (Có 1 )

There isn’t (Không có 1 )

There are (Có nhiều )

There aren’t any (Không có bất kì )

→ There was

→ There wasn’t

→ There were

→ There weren’t any

Chú ý:

Chúng ta dùng “There were” với lots of (nhiều) và some (một vài) trong câu khẳng định

và any (bất kì) trong câu phủ định (câu có not)

VD: - There was a park in our town fifty years ago

( Có 1 công viên ở thị trấn chúng ta cách đây 50 năm.)

- There wasn’t a shopping mall in our town fifty years ago

( Không có 1 khu thương mại nào ở thị trấn chúng ta cách đây 50 năm.)

- There were some funny trains one hundred years ago → câu khẳng định

( Có nhiều con tàu thú vị cách đây 100 năm.)

- There weren’t anyplanes two hundred years ago → câu phủ định

( Không có bất kì máy bay nào cách đây 200 năm.)

( Không có 1 khu thương mại nào ở thị trấn chúng ta cách đây 50 năm.)

- There were some funny trains one hundred years ago

( Có nhiều con tàu thú vị cách đây 100 năm.)

- There weren’t anyplanes two hundred years ago

( Không có bất kì máy bay nào cách đây 200 năm.)

 Lưu ý: (học thuộc)

There was / There wasn’t + a .

There were + lots of (nhiều) / som e (vài)

There weren’t + any (bất kì) .
