II Question words + to-infinitives

to express difficult or uncertain situations

Example:

Look out!

“why” cannot be used before a to-infinitive.

III Question words + to-infinitives

to report questions about sth that should be done

Example:

“What should I do?” she said

→ She wondered what to do

to-inf

Look out!

“if” cannot be used before a to-infinitive.

* Yes/No questions

Ex: ‘Should I tell my parents what I really think?’

→ She wondered whether/ if to tell her parents

what she really thought
