UNIT 1: Aa Lesson 3

I OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

- Read and say the three Aa words correctly

- Recognize and say a new Aa word correctly

* Handicapped Ss: will be able to read vocab with teacher’s help

1 Language focus:

- Vocabulary: ant, apple, alligator, acrobat

2 Skill: Reading, listening, speaking, writing

3 Attitude: Teach Ps to be friendly with the things around.

II TEACHING AIDS:

1 Teacher: students' book, CD, phonic cards, software

2 Student: Pupil’s book, notebook, crayons/colour pencils

III METHODS: T.P.R; games.

IV PROCEDURE:

1 Organization (1’)

- Greeting

- Check Ps’ attendance

2 Warm up (4’)

- Play the song from Lesson 2 (Track 06), ask students to sing along and do corresponding actions

3 New lesson (28’)

Activity 1 (8 mins):

- Ask the students to take out their colour pencils/

crayons

- Name some colours and ask the students to

repeat

- Use the structure: “I like…” and ask the students

hold up the colour pencils/ crayons they like

6 Colour the apples that have Aa in them

- Have the students colour the apples that have Aa

in them

- Give the students 2 minutes to colour in the

apples that have Aa in them Go around the

classroom providing any necessary help

* Handicapped Ss: colour with teacher’s help

Follow up : Thumbs Up or Down (3 mins)

- Number the apples in exercise 6 from one to six.

- Ask the students to put their thumbs up if the

apple has Aa in it and put their thumbs down if

the apple does not have Aa in it

- e.g Teacher: (point to the apple number one in

the book) Apple number one Up or Down?

- Class: (putting their thumbs up)

- Teacher: Good! And apple number two? Up or

Down?

Activity 2 ( 7 mins):

- Show the students the acrobat phonics card.

Point to it and say: /æ/ - acrobat Ask them to

repeat

- Point to the pictures, the students do the

corresponding actions and say the words

- Have students colour the pictures of the words

that start with the a sound

- Go around the classroom providing any

necessary help

- Check with the whole class.

* Handicapped Ss: read with teacher’s help

Follow up: Craftwork (10mins)

- Ask the students to take out their notebooks.

- Ask them to choose one word then draw the

letter and the picture in their notebooks

- Tell them to colour the letter and the picture.

- The three first students who finish will show

their picture to the class

7 Listen, point and repeat Colour the pictures of the words that start with the a sound Say the a words.

4 Consolidation (3 mins)

- Get Ps to say the letter and the pictures again

- Summarize the lesson

5 Homework: Ask pupils to finish their craftwork at home

UNIT 1: Aa Lesson 4

1 OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

- Review the sound of the letter Aa, four Aa words and recognize the

corresponding pictures

- Write the letter Aa

* Handicapped Ss: review the sound and the words of letter Aa, colour the letter

Aa with teacher’s help

1 Language focus:

- Vocabulary: revision (ant, apple, alligator, acrobat)

2 Skill: Reading, listening, speaking, writing

3 Attitude: Teach Ps to be friendly with the things around.

II TEACHING AIDS:

1 Teacher: CD, phonic cards, software

2 Student: Activity book, crayons/colour pencils

III METHODS: T.P.R; games.

- Have the students listen to the chant in lesson 1 Unit 1 (Track 04)

- Have the students sing and act to the chant

3 Revision & Practice (25’)

Activity 1: (8’)

Speaking :

- Write on the board the big A and small a

- Point to the letter A and say out loud “This is the letter

A / / The letter A says /æ/”

- Point to the letter a and say out loud “This is the letter

a / / The letter a says /æ/”

- Have the class repeat its sound chorally, then

- Have the students say the sound individually, correct

the pronunciation if necessary

Writing:

- Demonstrate how to write the big A

- Give the model

- Have some Ss practice tracing letter A on the board

- Have students trace letter A in the books

- Go around to give help if necessary

- Repeat the same procedure with the lower letter a

* Handicapped Ss: colour the letter Aa with teacher’s

help

Activity 2: Writing & Reading (5’)

- Copy the box from the book to the board

- Tell the students that you are going to write the letter

Aa into the box

- Demonstrate the writing

- Put phonics cards of ant and a bee on the board

- Draw 2 small square boxes next to them on the board

- Ask the students which one goes with letter Aa and

then tick the correct box

- Ask the students to write the letter Aa in the boxes in

their book and tick the correct picture that corresponds

to the letter

Answer keys: ant, acrobat

* Handicapped Ss: write the letter Aa with teacher’s

help

Activity 3: Writing (6’)

- Explain the activity

- Ask the students for the missing letter and write it in

the gap

- Go around and give help as needed

Activity 4: Writing (6’)

- Show and point to each picture on page 3 and say the

sound and then the word

- Students listen and nod or shake their head

- If they nod, trace a circle with your finger around the

picture

- Have the students circle the pictures of the words

starting with the a sound

- Go around providing any necessary help

2 Write the letter Aa Then tick ().

3 Trace and write a

nut alligator apple

4 Circle the pictures

of the words that begin with the a sound.

4 Consolidation (4 mins)

- Get Ps do the activity on the portfolio page for unit 1

5 Homework: Ask pupils to finish the activity at home.
