UNIT 13: LETTER M –PART 1, 2, 3

I Objective:

1 Language focus:

By the end of the lesson Ps will be able to:

Recognize and pronounce the letter Mm and its sound correctly

Understand, recognize and say the three Mm words

Write the letter Mm

Vocabulary: moon, mouse, milk

2 Skill:

- Listening, speaking, reading, writing

3 Attitude:

- Encourage Ss to use the structure more regularly

II Teaching aids:

- Book, phonics cards, computer, projector

III Method:

- Model – Talk - Practice, individual work, pair work, group work

IV Procedures:

1 Organization: (1’)

- Greeting and check student attendance

2 Warm-up (5’)

- Put the phonics cards from the previous lesson on the board

- Below the cards, write the words without the beginning letters

- Ask some individuals come to the board and find the beginning letter to complete each word

3 New Lesson

1 Listen, point and repeat Colour (10’)

- Use a card with letter Mm (or write on board the

letter Mm) to introduce to the students the new

lesson

- Instruct students how to pronounce the letter name

and the letter sound by saying: “This is the letter M

/em/, the letter M says /m /.”

- Repeat several times and check students’

Mm: Moon: mặt trăng Mouse: con chuột Milk: sữa

- Use the phonics cards with moon, mouse and milk,

read the words out loud and have students repeat

- Use gestures (hand actions) to help students to

understand the meanings of the three words

moon: imitate looking at the sky

mouse: use hands to mime big ears while

squeaking

milk: imitate drinking

- Stick the cards on board and have students repeat

the words chorally several times (in the correct order

and then in any order)

- Call some students to say the words out loud and

correct their mistakes (if any)

2 Listen and point Colour (8 )

- Have students look at the book and listen to the

expression: “Can you see the moon”,

- Have students point to the objects when they hear

- Have students listen and repeat the sentence for

several times

- Give feedback

- Do the same procedure with the other words

*Colour (2’)

- Ask students to colour the moon, mouse and milk

using any colour they like

- Go around the classroom, ask students to name the

item they are colouring

*Sight words (2’)

- Read the sight words : can, you, see, the

- Ask students to listen and repeat

3 Chant and show.

*Act it out (3’)

- Read the word and ask students to listen and do the

gestures for 3 words moon, mouse and milk

- Change role: teachers does the actions, students look

and call out the words

* Chant and show (5’)

- Use the phonics cards on the board and have

students sing the chant with moon Do the same with

mouse and milk.

- The whole class sings the whole chant Do the chant

again using gestures for each word

- Give feedback

* Production: Writing in the air (3’)

Show the letter Mm again, have students write the

Mm in air with their fingers

2 Listen and point Colour.

3 Chant and show.
