      Lesson 3: A closer look 2

A. OBJECTIVE:  

1. Knowledge: ­ By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

­ Review the present simple and the future simple

­ How to use verbs of liking 

a. Vocabulary:  Hobbies and action verbs 

b. Grammar:  The simple present, the simple future (review); verbs of liking + V­ing 

2. Skills: ­ Practicing skills

3. Attitude: ­  Positive about their hobbies.

       ­ Students know how to learn English in right way

      ­ Ss are interested in doing exercises

4. Competences:

­ Co­operation

­ Self­ study

­ Using language to talk about hobbies

B. PREPARATION:

1.Teacher: book, planning, picture, laptop, projector

2.Students: books, notebooks

C.  TEACHING METHODS: 

­ Communicative approach, group Ss and T’s activities, play as a character, teaching  methods with game, teaching methods by visual, teaching methods by practising, 

discussion group, technical present…

D. PROCEDURE:

I.Warm up

Ss present the form and usage of these two 

tenses

1. Grammar 1:

A­ The Present simple and the future 

simple: Review

2. Practice.

* Activity 1: 

­  Ss do this exercise individually

­ Compare their answers

1. Complete the sentences. Use the present 

answers on the board

* Activity 2: 

­ Ask Ss to look at the table and make sure 

that they understand it. 

­Explain: That x 3 per week means three 

times a week

­ Work in pairs

­ Check the answers and write the correct 

answers on the board

* Activity 3: 

3. a: ­ Work in groups

­Explain: “ frequency” means how often 

someone does something in a given time 

frame

3.b: ­ Each group writes a short report 

similar to Nick’s report in 2

­Read the comment and votes for the best 

report

3. Grammar 2:

Verbs of liking + V­ing

­Have Ss read the Look out! Box

­ May call some Ss to make sentences with 

the verbs of liking

4. Practice.

* Activity 4: 

­ Ss do the exercise individually, then 

compare their answers with a classmate

­Call some Ss to read out the answers

* Activity 5: 

 ­ Work in pairs

­Have Ss read the example and explain the 

way to do this activity. Ss write sentences 

using the pictures as clues. Call some 

students to write their sentences on the 

board. Check and comment on Ss’ 

sentences

* Activity 6:

2. The table below shows the results of Nick’s  survey on his classmates’ hobbies. Read the  table and complete his report using the  present simple.

Call on some Ss to write their sentences on 

the board. Ask other Ss for their comments. 

Correct any mistakes
