1 Kiến thức chung

Nếu bạn đã học bài Listening Day 1: Form Completion, thường ra trong Section 1 thì Note Completion theo mình thấy thì cũng tương tự, không khác gì mấy, thường

ra ở những câu cuối Section 1 hoặc Section 2 Tuy nhiên, nếu như Day 1 mình đã focus vào điền form (báo cáo, trộm cướp, report, đăng ký, thuê đồ ) thì giờ mình

sẽ học qua 1 chút về Table (bảng), nội dung cũng không khác gì lắm đâu nhưng hình thức thì có khác nè, vì một cái sẽ là điền vào Form (như Day 1) còn một cái sẽ điền vào bảng Table (như hôm nay học)

À thật ra thì nói không khác gì lắm cũng không hẳn, vì nội dung nghe Section 1 sẽ chậm và dễ hơn, còn qua Section 2 sẽ khó hơn và lừa lọc nhiều hơn đó, nhất là khi Table có phần điền số (người, giá, tiền ) thì ôi thôi audio sẽ đọc 1 đống số luôn Thêm nữa là nhiều khi dạng Table này sẽ nói mình điền 2-3 từ (không phải One Word Only như Form Completion nữa) cho nên cũng phải cân nhắc số lượng từ điền vào vừa khớp lại còn phải vừa chuẩn

Theo mình cái này nên gọi là Table Completion cho chuẩn nhỉ, vì đang nói về Table

mà Anyway thì bạn hãy lướt qua thử 1 tấm hình bên dưới về dạng này nhé, rồi đọc phía dưới nữa mình có chia sẻ một chút về dạng bài này Nói chung là dạng điền từ thì cũng giống như nhau thôi, tuy nhiên về audio, nội dung, tốc độ audio, độ giăng bẫy của audio thì có chút khác nhau đó

2 Các bước làm bài

Bước 1: Khoanh tròn số từ cần điền

NO MORE THAN TWO WORDS AND/OR A NUMBER nghĩa là number = one word Khi bạn gặp dạng câu hỏi này, một số (number) được tính là một từ Do đó, 25 October gồm một từ và số sẽ được tính là 2 từ Một ví dụ khác là March 31 gồm một từ và một số Ví dụ này đồng thời được chấp nhận với câu hỏi yêu cầu one word and/or a number Hay March 31st, 1972 là 3 words and/or numbers vì “st” không tính

Nếu đề bài yêu cầu chỉ one word and/or a number đáp án sẽ là 31 March Hay “a capital city” sẽ là 3 từ, mạo từ “a” cũng sẽ được tính như 1 từ Và những từ có dấu gạch ngang như out-of-date (hết hạn) cũng sẽ tính là 1 từ

Ví dụ bài này, mình cần điền “NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS AND/OR A NUMBER” thì ta cần điền không quá ba từ và/hoặc 1 số, nghĩa là điền hai từ vẫn được, 1 từ vẫn được nhé! Thông thường gặp dạng điền nhiều từ như thế này, thì chỉ khoảng 1-2 ô trống là điền 3 từ thôi, còn những ô còn lại đa số toàn 1-2 từ không à (và số)

Bước 2: Đọc khoảng trống + Gạch chân keywords

Việc đầu tiên bạn cần làm đó là đọc như chữ in đậm, tiêu đề của mỗi cột, xem mỗi cột tương ứng với cái gì

Ví dụ:

 Cột 1 là Types of Concerts (Loại hòa nhạc nào) à điền tên của concert

 Cột 2 là Time (thời gian) à điền thời gian, cụ thể hơn, nhìn 1 loạt từ trên xuống dưới toàn thấy điền buổi/thứ à điền thứ trong tuần hoặc buổi trong ngày!

 Cột 3 là Cost (Chi phí, tiền)à điền số tiền

 Cột 4 (Additional Information) à điền thông tin chung

Sau khi nắm được tên 4 cột dọc rồi bắt đầu đọc những chỗ đục lỗ, Ví dụ 1 là cần điền tên buổi concert này Vị trí 2 là điền số tiền Vị trí 3 mình đoán là điền phương

tiện truyền thông, vì họ nói là broadcast Vị trí 5 điền tên đồ vật nào có thể dùng

để trang trí, hoặc màu sắc trang trí Vị trí 6 điền thứ trong tuần hoặc buổi trong ngày như đã phân tích ở trên Vị trí 7 thấy “by” thì biết là bị động, nên theo sau chắc là người/tổ chức/nhân vật nào đó Vị trí 8 là màn trình diễn (performance) của

“something/someone”, maybe là điền tên nghệ sĩ, band nhạc, dụng cụ chơi nhạc vào đó

Vị trí 9 ở cột “cost”, mà đọc thì chắc chắn ko phải điền vào số tiền, cho nên từ cần điền phải liên quan gì đó đến giá cả, “no group ” (không có theo nhóm) thì các bạn nào làm quen có thể đoán luôn một trong số những từ điền vào là

“discount, deduction, promotions ” Vị trí 10 “a popular will peform” ( nổi tiếng sẽ trình diễn) nghĩ ngay đến một người nào đó (ca sĩ, diễn viên hài, kịch nghệ, người chơi dụng cụ âm nhạc như pianist/band nhạc nào đó nổi tiếng sẽ trình diễn ) Tương tự như Form Completion, song song với việc đó, chúng ta sẽ tìm và gạch chân các keywords trong Table gạch chân những từ mang tính giúp bạn nghe từ cần điền tốt hơn, những từ nào nổi bật, mang thông tin quan trọng trong câu, chúng sẽ giúp chúng ta tìm thông tin trong bài nghe và điền thông tin vào khoảng trống Đọc

từ khóa của Listening không phức tạp như ở Reading, vì bạn không có nhiều thời gian mà sẽ nghe luôn ngay sau đó khoảng 30s – 1 phút, cho nên không cần phức tạp nhiều, đọc đơn giản thôi, nhanh chóng, nhé!

Classical concerts are held all the time But I'd really like to do something different and make it special What do you think about holding it outside?

I like the idea but the weather is too unpredictable What if we host the concert for children? (1) We could make it more lighthearted and everyone could dress up in costume

What a wonderful idea We could host the event every afternoon so that children can attend after school How much do you think we should charge?

I don't think we should charge more than five dollars for the student tickets

No, I think that four dollars will be a fair price (2) We can charge adults a little bit more I'd say that 6.50 is suitable

Okay great That should hopefully cover the costs of running the event The local press will be in attendance to take photographs to print in the newspaper, so we'll also need to organize a press tent

It's also exciting There will also be a representative from the local radio station broadcasting live (3), then predicting is that over a thousand people will tune in to listen

Now that we're agreed Let's move on to discuss our other more sophisticated concert where we'll be hosting a number of well-known opera performers

As it will be a lavish and elegant event, I think we should set quite a high entrance fee of around 40 dollars It'll give us some extra money to spend on decorations That sounds fair Instead of using chandeliers and electric lights we should decorate the marquee with candles instead (5) It would be so romantic

Now moving on to the concert where we showcase talented opera singers from the local area Perhaps we should host this opera show on Monday evening

I think that the venue is already booked on Monday but Tuesday will do nicely (6) How much do you think we should charge the audience for tickets since the performers are not professionals?

Perhaps we should make this a free event

Well what if we make our final concert a karaoke night where everyone of any ability can sing on stage? It could be really good fun, and it would give everyone the opportunity to join in

Perhaps we should offer concessions for students, children and the elderly to make the tickets more affordable and encourage everyone to come

Yes definitely I think that the majority of the crowd will be composed of families and friendship groups So we should avoid giving a group discount to maximize the income from ticket sales (9)

One of my friends happens to know a famous singer who I'm sure would be happy

Bước 3: Lựa chọn đáp án + Đọc kỹ nhừng từ vệ tinh

Nếu như đã xem qua ý chính của Table và biết những loại từ cần điền rồi, việc còn lại của bạn chỉ là nghe thật kỹ, không để sót, không để bị lừa, không để bị miss thông tin

Theo kinh nghiệm của mình, thông thường Section 1 sẽ khá là dông dài (tức là audio đọc hơi lòng vòng mới chốt được từ cần điền, và phần thông tin bên ngoài họ nói chuyện với nhau khá nhiều) nhưng khi sang tới Table, họ sẽ nói khá ngắn gọn xúc tích, đa phần thông tin chỉ có trong Table mà thôi, không đi lan man bên ngoài và

sẽ chốt đáp án rất nhanh, nên bạn phải chuẩn bị tinh thần là tập trung chốt đáp án, không có lòng vòng hay lan man đâu Đọc 1 phát cái xong luôn nguyên cái Table hồi nào không hay đó

Hãy lưu ý và nghe kỹ những từ xuất hiện xung quanh khoảng trống, những giới từ

ví dụ như of, about, for Đây là những từ quan trọng có thể nghe trong bài audio, thông thường những giới từ (khoảng 60%) sẽ giữ nguyên trong bài audio, nên cần nghe kỹ và ghi nhớ giới từ và những từ xung quanh khoảng trống (mình gọi là những

từ vệ tinh)

Ví dụ trong bài này, cần chú ý đến những từ vệ tinh như “changes to ”, “beginning

of the ”, “send to ”, “only for”

Bước 4: Kiểm tra đáp án

Kiểm tra xem từ này có cần “s” hay không, kiểm tra lại từ mình đã điền đã phù hợp với loại từ cần điền vào chưa

Kiểm tra xem đáp án mình điền vào là đáp án cuối cùng hay chưa, trong băng thường sẽ xuất hiện những đáp án gây nhiễu để khó xác định được đáp án chính xác, các bạn hãy chú ý lắng nghe những từ nối như “but”, “however”, “so”

Kiểm tra xem đáp án mình ghi trong tờ đề khớp với đáp án trong “answer sheet” chưa, chính tả đúng chưa

Nếu phân vân giữa 2 đáp án, thì nên nhìn những đáp án xung quanh để lựa chọn, khả năng đúng sẽ cao hơn, hoặc dùng phương pháp loại trừ vào phút cuối

us about some of the events happening in our state capital over the next three weeks at the Spring Festival So, Mary what can we expect to see?
