Extraction and isolation of asiatic acid from Syzygium resinosum G leave and investigation of anticaries effects of asiatic acid to Streptococcus mutans H2

which isolated from Vietnamese patient

• One compound belong to terpene group from the extracts of Syzygium resinosum was isolated, purified and identified as asiatic acid (C30H48O5)

• Asiatic acid from Syzygium resinosum was inhibitory for acid production by S mutans H2 Combination of asiatic acid with NaF or H2O2 exhibited a remarkably enhanced inhibitory effect on acid production of 5 mutans H2 In addition, asiatic acid from plants were highly lethal for 5 mutans H2 at pH 4.0 and was shown to kill other oral bacteria such as S sanguis and S rattus

• Asiatic acid from Syzygium resinosum leaves inhibited activity of

glucose-phosphotransferase system (IC50 was 1 mM), lactate dehydrogenase (IC50 was 0.75 mM), pyruvate kinase (IC50 was 1.2 mM) related to acid production, ATPase (IC50 was 1.5 mM) related to acid adaptation, NADH oxidase (IC50

was I mM) related to oxygen consumption of 5 mutans
