Vocabulary Building Technique

The vocabulary learning technique you’re about to do is based on Method 3 as explained in Master Vocabulary: How to Learn the Vocabulary that Native

Speakers Use.

Here’s the link to Master Vocabulary in case you didn’t read it

In this cheat sheet most of the work is already done for you All you need to do

is record yourself reading each one of the sentences below Each sentence

exemplifies a phrasal verb

I’ve designed this document to be easily viewed on your cell phone However, it might be more convenient for you to view this document on your computer and

Trang 3

use your cell phone to record yourself

I suggest you do one voice recording for every 10 sentences Each page has 10 sentences so you don’t need to count

The benefit of recording yourself

By reading the sentences out loud you engage in a more active way with the vocabulary than you do just by reading Once you finish recording yourself

reading the sentences out loud, you’re going to listen to the recordings In this way, the vocabulary is going to further consolidate in your brain as you’re

employing your auditory memory

Let’s schedule the times you’re going to listen to the recordings Listen to the audio files the day after you finish recording them Then, do the same a week

Trang 4

after, and for then a month after Mark it in your calendar It’s important you

follow through if you want results

If aren’t completely sure what the phrasal verb of the sentence you’re reading means, you can translate it at the end of that sentence This is a easiest and

quickest way to solve that problem An example below:

They ripped you off at that hotel

I don’t know what rip off means I read the article, but I can’t recall what that PV means This is what you’ll record on your cell phone

They ripped you off at that hotel (rip off = estafar) (Spanish)

Trang 5

Another example:

Claudia loaded up on CDs for the road trip (load up on = llevar un monton de)

You don’t need to be too precise with the translation Look up the PV on the dictionary and figure out if the translation listed there is appropriate

Feel free to share your recording in the GO WOW English Community or send it

to me to my email: max.ahu@gmai.com
