PART I THE INTRODUCTION
I THE REASONS FOR CHOOSING THE THEME.
English plays an important role in life nowadays If we can speak Englishwell, we will have an opportunity to get a great deal of benefits, a good job withhigh salary, a chance to go abroad and access new civilizations Correspondentlywith the development of science and technology, the demand of learning English
is dramatically increasing As a result, the number of English centers is
Trang 2increasing everywhere in our country especially in big cities Hence, everyone atany age has chance to learn foreign languages For students in high school, theyhave a professional learning environment, and they are taught carefully by well-trained teachers However, due to exam pressure, students usually focus on testsand grammatical points rather than speaking skill Having thought of thisproblems a lot, I have made decision to find out somes ways that help studentsboth communicate well in English and get correct answer in the GCSEexamination Students not only need to communicate well but they also have tomake a right option when sitting in an exam In the latest structure of GCSE test, there are often two conversation questions which test students about differentsituations Furthermore, each context has a distint respond That students masterways of answering questions in different situations assists them to communicateeffectively and get maximum points in the test Because of above reasons I make
a decision of choosing the initiative named “Guiding students in Quan Son high school to answer the conversation questions in the GCSE examination”
II THE PURPOSE OF THE INITIATIVE.
When doing the research on this theme, I focus on finding all thesituations of conversation in our life as well as our work I also discover thedifferent ways to reponds in these cases I also give some popular expressions, collocations used in daily communications by English native speakers It enablesstudents to react naturally and to recognise the right answer easily when doingthe test Moreover I also classify communicative situations into different stylessuch as very formal, formal and informal cases so that learners can apply them
in different one In addition, learners can also distinguish the options in multiplequestions in the English tests In some cases, students can choose the rightoption as soon as they look at the questions This is really important for thestudents in Quan Son high school, who are lack of a good environment to speakEnglish, and who do not pay much attention to a foreign language, too Whenteaching English here, teachers in general always have to simplify the structures
by using short and clear example so that students can understand the lessoneasily and they find them interesting to learn Therefore, the more tips theteachers provide in each topics, the more points students can get in theexamination For students in moutainous area, each right answer is reallyimportant, it can decide whether they fail or pass the GCSE exam at once
III THE REEARCHED SUBJECTS.
Conversation is a necessary topic in teaching foreign language, we usuallyuse these expressions in our daily life If students understand clearly about theways to convey their opinion, they can simply communicate with other peopleand get good mark in the written test. When researching this theme, I mainlyconcentrate on the learners who are the final year students of high school Theyare students of class 12A1 at Quan Son high school When applying successfullywith them I will apply to all students in our school next time
PART II THE CONTENT
Trang 3I.THE THEORICAL FOUNDATION OF THIS THEME.
As I mentioned before, conversation questions are not only popular indaily dialogues but they are also present at the written test Although the number
of these question is limited only two questions in each test, it is rather importantfor the students in Quan Son high school Because along with grammarticalpoints, these questions can be taught for them before each examination Andthen, students can write down and learn by heart as important tips for theirexams In fact, the textbook mentions to this topic but it is not enough and it isnot listed systematically Furthermore it is not shown in real contexts as well asspecific situations Therefore the expressions given in the textbook can not givelearners a deep impression so that they can remmember and understand thesethoroughly That is the reason why I choose to study the theme to research as agood chance to accumulate my experience for my teaching English at myschool
II THE CURRENT SITUATION OF THE THEME
Nowadays, the books and reference materials related to English andcommunication English are so plentiful that learners do not know which tochoose and to read Attending an English centre is a good way to improvespoken English and widen English grammar, but is is impossible for students inQuan Son district Because they can’t afford to attend a club financially, andthere is not any English centre in the local, either The teachers here not onlyhave to try to attract students in each classes and we also make effort to simplifythe lesson so that the lesson will be more interesting, easier to understand andespecially students do not have to pay any more money for it So, the creationand impatience of the teachers are so important Teaching about conversationsituations can’t depend on the content printed in the textbook, but we have toredesign it, sometimes reduce and sometimes increase the level of each lesson toadapt to the students at the school The ways of communicating needs to presentclearly and systematically so that students can memorise the best
III.THE METHODS TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM
To research the initiative, I used a lot of methods
- Finding the information in some reference books
- Asking my collegues for help
- Obersing students during teaching at school
- Asking for advices from the teachers all over the country
- Collecting the used tips on the different English websites…
After I have collected enough material for my initiative, I organise themaccording to my using purpose as meaningful tips for my students First of all, Iclassify them into diffrents types of conversation cases then I provide possibleresponses for each and then I give some examples The examples are practicequestions and sometime are questions used in the mock exams or even theofficial exam in the past school years It is a good chance for students to applywhat they have learn in the real context and specially they know how to answer
Trang 4the question which they may meet in an exam I believe that after pacticing withthese exercises, they will have good experience to face with the comingexamination.
