Phương án A, chữ a được đọc là /ə/ , phương án B, chữ a được đọc là /æ/, phương án

 -Những từ có một âm tiết thì âm tiết đó là trọng âm.

bed /’bed/

- Những từ có hai hoặc ba âm tiết thường có một trọng âm Trọng âm có thể ở

vị trí của âm tiết thứ nhất, thứ hai hoặc cuối.

father /’fa:ə/

apartment /’ ə pa:tmənt/

cigarette /,sigə’ret/

- Những từ có ba âm tiết trở lên có thể có hai trọng âm: Trọng âm chính và

trọng âm phụ.

- Không có một qui tắc nhất định Thông thường, các động từ có hai âm tiết có

trọng âm ở âm tiết thứ hai, các danh từ tương ứng có hai âm tiết có trọng âm

ở âm tiết thứ nhất.

 Cụ thể: Từ có hai âm tiết:

+ Động từ có hai âm tiết:

- Khi âm tiết thứ hai chứa nguyên âm dài( /i:/) hoặc một nguyên âm đôi(/ai/),

hoặc động từ đó kết thúc bằng hơn một phụ âm, thì âm tiết thứ hai được nhấn.

VD: apply /ə’plai/

- Khi động từ không có các trường hợp trên, thì âm tiết thứ nhất được nhấn.

VD: enter /’entə/

+ Danh từ có hai âm tiết:

Nếu âm tiết thứ hai chứa một nguyên âm ngắn thì trọng âm sẽ nằm ở âm tiết thứ nhất Nếu không thì trọng âm sẽ ở âm tiết thứ hai.

VD: money /’mʌni/

- Các tính từ và trạng từ có hai âm tiết thường theo qui tắc của động từ có hai

âm tiết

 Cụ thể: Từ có ba âm tiết:

+ Động từ có ba âm tiết:

- Nếu âm tiết cuối cùng của động từ có chứa một nguyên âm ngắn và kết thúc

không quá một phụ âm, thì trọng âm sẽ rơi vào âm tiết ngay trước nó.

VD: encounter/iη’kauntə/

- Nếu âm tiết cuối cùng của động từ có chứa một nguyên âm dài hoặc nguyên

âm đôi, và kết thúc bằng hơn một phụ âm, thì âm tiết cuối cùng đó sẽ được

nhấn.

VD: entertain/entə’tein/

+ Danh từ có ba âm tiết:

- Nếu âm tiết cuối cùng chứa một nguyên âm đơn hay nguyên âm đơn / OU / thì

âm tiết đó sẽ không được nhấn Nếu âm tiết giữa trong trường hợp trên chứa một nguyên âm dài hoặc nguyên âm đôi thì âm tiết giữa này sẽ được nhấn.

VD: potato/pə’teitou/

- Nếu âm tiết cuối cùng chứa một nguyên ngắn và âm tiết giữa cũng chứa một

nguyên âm ngắn và kết thúc bằng không quá một phụ âm, thì cả âm tiết cuối

và âm tiết giữa đều không được nhấn Trọng âm sẽ được đặt ở âm tiết đầu.

VD: cinema/’sinəmə/

 Lưu ý: Cách tốt nhất khi học ngữ âm Tiếng Anh ta phải luyên phát âm đúng với mỗi từ vì còn nhiều trường hợp bất qui tắc.
