Challenges:

A centralized system is needed to monitor the Solar Energy Plant The system should be able to take

in different sensor readings, generate remote site alarms as well as transfer data to a centralized location for storage or report generation

Solution:

With NI cRIO platform,we are able to set up a SCADA system that monitors and collects data from remote sites and transferred the data to an industrial PC for data logging

Abstract

The SCADA and Monitoring system by Scada Automation is developed to support the Solar Energy Plant Technology It offers an integrated system which completely embraces from the design and planning through the installation and the end-client software report The system is designed to suit and match to the plant environment and system stability

System Overview

The system transmits the data collected from the remote plant to the data center via a GPRS modem (and can also support transmission via ADSL) All inverters are interfaced to the Device server via RS485/232/422 The system can comply with other inverter manufacturers whereby the protocol in software communication part will be modified accordingly All instruments and digital meters can interface to the Device server via the standard serial interfaces e.g RS232, RS422 or RS485 depending on the equipment’s physical characteristics Others instrument can communicate to the Remote I/O units via the 4-20 mA standard and Digital signaling

The real time controller will connect to remote I/O to collect the data from Inverter and current PV from the combiner box and also included is the alarm of surge detection in the box The real time controller will interface to 5 Remote I/O equipments system which support 32 Analog inputs and 32 Digital inputs

The core network boasts Fiber Optic cabling with star topology for highly efficient capability and for protection from the power surge from lightning to Communication line (Wireless network options) The Controller performs as a Data logging and control system to collect all data from Inverter, Meter, temperature Sensor, WIND sensor and pyrano meter and the current of Solar combiner box

An industrial PC (Ind.PC) functions as a status management and also handles remote monitoring tasks from remote areas to manage all equipments at site Also, the Ind PC stores the backup data from the real time controller whenever the transmission is lost and sends the backup data to data center when the transmission resumes back

The controller will send all data to server via GPRS modem and store all of the data into memory In case the network GPRS is down, the controller will store the backup data and will send the backup data to the server whenever the network is recovered The user can use an internet browser to monitor all the meters and status of the equipments which include Historical, Real time data, Graph and alarm logging The client software can connect to web browser to login to the system and to see the SCADA real time status, Alarm, Event, Power consumption, Communication efficiency, Inverter status, Electricity production, DC and AC voltage and current logging and Trend graph etc

Software Description

There are three software parts

1 Real time controller software (Developed with NI LabVIEW Real-Time) is software that runs on the

real time controller unit to collect all data from expansion nodes, all sensors and all inverters This

software will make a decision to generate alarms when the data is lost or exceeds the limit bands

and makes a data period to transmit via the GPRS modem to data center Also the unit will

communicate to the Ind PC to store the data in the Ind PC for local database backup

2 Industrial PC software (Developed with NI LabVIEW) is a software run on the Windows OS to

store a data back up and generates a report when the operator function Also it retransmits the

backup data to data center once halted when the transmission is lost

3 Data center software (Developed with NET and NI LabVIEW) is a software on Windows server

2008 OS and the SQL server This unit will receive data from the remote site and stores the data

into the SQL database in time stamp sequence There are a web service module and a web server

module to serve the client connecting via the internet to establish the connection and to check the

SCADA information which includes real time chart, Historical, alarm and event logging and report

generator
