Level: Grade 11

Theme: THE WONDERS OF THE WORLD

Unit 16 – Reading

Time/ Duration: 45 minutes

I Objectives:

1 Education objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

- Develop such reading micro-skills as scanning for specific ideas, skimming for general information, and guessing meaning in context

- Use the information they have read to discuss the topic

2 Knowledge objectives: Reading to find the sentences that show facts and the ones that describe opinions

II Method: Integrated, mainly communicative.

III Teaching aid: mini-boards, textbook.

Procedures:

Warm-up: (5 minutes)

Mini-game: WORD HUNTING

- Teacher divides the class into 2 groups

- Group A has to write down any words

consisting of the letters N, E, W

- Group 2 has to find any words

consisting of the letters R, D, O

- Teacher asks students to write down the

answers on the blackboard

- The group with more correct words

wins the game

Question: Now, one more question, who can

use the letter N, E, W, R, D and O to make a

meaning word? There are 3 marks for this

question

Expected answer : WONDER

- Introduce the new lesson

- Students listen to the instructions and play the game

Pre-reading: (8 minutes)

- Ask students to work in pairs and - Students work in pairs and discuss

of the world?

Question 2: Where do you think they are

located?

Question 3: What do you know about them?

- Teacher invites some students to

answers the questions

- Introduce some new words

While-reading: (20 minutes)

- Students read the passage silently to

understand

Task 1: Ask students to work in pairs

- Teacher gives students instructions

- Check the answer in front of the

class as a whole

Task 2: Ask students to work individually and

answer the questions

- Teacher provides students the

keywords

- Mini-game: lucky number

- Divide class into 2 groups and play

game

- Lucky number: 3, 5

- Ask students to choose a number

+ Students choose one number and answer

question correlative with the number If they

give the correct answer, they have 1 mark

+ If they choose a lucky number, they will

have 1 mark without answering question They

choose other number and the game continues

- Students work in pairs and do task 1

- Students work individually and do task 2

- Listen to the instructions and play game

- Students work in groups and do task 3

the winner

Task 3: Ask students to work in groups

- Teacher asks students to scan the

passage again and say what the

following words refer to

- Invite some students to write the

answers on the mini-broads

After-reading: (10 minutes)

- Ask students to work in groups and

discuss

- Go around and help if necessary

- Teacher invites some students to

presents

- Teacher gives comments

- Students work in groups and discuss

Homework: (2 minutes)

- Ask students to learn new words by

heart and prepare the next lesson - Students listen and copy in their notebooks
