UNIT 8: CELEBRATIONS

A READING

 Objectives: By the end of the lesson, SS will be able to:

- Develop reading micro-skills such as scanning for specific ideas

and guessing meaning in context.

- Use the information they have read to discuss the topic.

Teaching aids: Textbook, handouts, and interactive board

Method: Communicative approach

Procedure:

I Check up:

- Ask SS to complete the 3 blanks to revise the

conditional sentences and reported speech

III Warm up: Brainstorm

 Set 4 groups

 Ask SS to work in groups to guess the

holidays

 Give instruction: for each holiday, I’ll show

4 pictures, one by one If you can guess what

it is after the 1st pic., you’ll win 40 points;

after the 2nd one → 30; after the 3rd one →

30; and the last 10

 Ask SS if it is clear or not

 Show the pictures for SS to guess

 Show 4 pictures one by one and ask SS what

holiday they think of If they can answer

after the 1st picture, they get 40 points; 2nd →

30 , 3rd → 20, After 3 holidays/celebrations,

the group with the highest point wins the

game

 Point to the picture about Tet and ask

questions:

+ Do you like Tet holiday?

+ What do you often do at Tet?

Introducing the text: today we’re going to

read a passage about Tet Before that I’d

like you to go through some new vocabulary.

Pre -teaching vocabulary

 Ask SS to work in groups They’re going

answer some questions about the passage

There are 8 multiple choice questions

Behind them there is a picture of a

celebration If they have a correct answer,

they will get 10 ps and a part of the picture

will be opened They raise their flashcards to

show their answer

 Elicit the key words from SS

 Each group has only one chance to answer

the celebration

VI After you read:

SS work in groups and draw a plan for their

next Tet holiday

When all groups have finished, T calls on some

SS to report their ideas to the class

VII Consolidation and Homework:

- T summarizes the main points and ask SS to

prepare the next part - Speaking
