Đề bài 1 (13-8-2015): Some people who have been in prison become good citizens later Some people think that having these people to give a talk to school students is the best
way to tell them about dangers of committing a crime Do you agree or disagree?
It is true that ex-prisoners can become normal, productive members of society I completely agree with the idea that allowing such people to speak to teenagers about their experiences
is the best way to discourage them from breaking the law
In my opinion, teenagers are more likely to accept advice from someone who can speak from experience Reformed offenders can tell young people about how they became involved in crime, the dangers of a criminal lifestyle, and what life in prison is really like They can also dispel any ideas that teenagers may have about criminals leading glamorous lives While adolescents are often indifferent to the guidance given by older people, I imagine that most of them would be extremely keen to hear the stories of an ex-offender The vivid and perhaps shocking nature of these stories is likely to have a powerful impact The alternatives to using reformed criminals to educate teenagers about crime would be much less effective One option would be for police officers to visit schools and talk to young people This could be useful in terms of informing teens about what happens to lawbreakers when they are caught, but young people are often reluctant to take advice from figures of authority A second option would be for school teachers to speak to their students about crime, but I doubt that students would see teachers as credible sources of information about this topic Finally, educational films might be informative, but there would be no opportunity for young people to interact and ask questions
In conclusion, I fully support the view that people who have turned their lives around after serving a prison sentence could help to deter teenagers from committing crimes

Đề bài 2: Some people think that the best way to reduce crime is to give longer prison sentences Others, however, believe there are better alternative ways of reducing crime
Discuss both views and give your opinion
Crime is a serious and growing problem in most societies Although many people believe that the best way to tackle this is to place people in prison for longer periods, others are of the opinion that other measures will be more effective
There are benefits of giving offenders longer prison sentences Firstly, spending a long time
in prison provides an opportunity for the prison services to rehabilitate a prisoner For example, someone who has committed a serious offence such as assault will need a long time in prison in order to be sure they can be re-educated not to re-offend In addition to this, longer prison sentences will act as a deterrent for someone who is thinking of committing a crime
However, some people argue that leaving people in prison for a long time means that they will mix with other criminals and so their character will not improve One alternative is community service This gives an offender the opportunity to give something positive back
to society, and so it may improve their character Also, the government could focus its resources on the causes of crime, which would lead to less crime in the future
In my opinion, it is important to look at alternative methods Many countries have lengthy prison sentences, but crime has continued to increase throughout the world, so it is clear that this is not completely effective That said, long prison sentences should remain for those who commit serious crimes such as assault or murder, as justice for the victim and their family should take priority
To conclude, there are good arguments for and against long sentences, so governments must continue to research the various methods of crime reduction to ensure effective policies are in place

Đề bài 3: Many people are too scared to leave their home because of a fear of crime Some people think that more should be done to prevent crime, whereas others feel that nothing can be done What are your views?
It is quite obvious that the rate of crimes are increasing day by day in all societies in the world, but I personally do believe that there are a lot which can be done by both the governments and the individuals to reduce the crimes in communities
A lot of important measures, on the one hand, can be taken by the governments in order
to reduce or even eradicate different types of crimes First, governments can introduce more police forces everywhere to monitor people s activities and stop them from committing crimes Second, the state can apply new technologies such as surveillance cameras in the streets, shopping centers, restaurants and all public places to cease criminals Third, strict punishments on criminals can have really preventive and deterrent effects on all age groups in society , so by using harsh penalties like imprisonment, physical
or financial punishments the rate of crimes can be decreased
On the other hand, individuals in societies can be of great help to cut down on the number
of crimes being committed To my mind, the overwhelming majority of people tend to participate in activities assisting the government to keep the society a safe place for their own families and the others and for all age groups Take as an example, most people by reporting the problems to police can play an indispensable role in crime-prevention activities In addition, when people themselves care about decreasing heinous crimes in cities, it can be sort of a preventive action to harness well the situation in society by government as well
To conclude, in order for a society to be a safe place to live in, all society members including the governments and people must take necessary measurements to keep it a crime-free place

Đề bài 4: In recent years, there has been a considerable rise in crimes committed by young people in cities What has caused this? What solutions can you suggest?
Đề thi tương tự ngày 02-08-2014: In many parts of the world, children and teenagers are committing more crimes Why is this happening? How should they be punished?
The rise of crime among young people is an urgent problem in many cities that needs to be addressed However, in order to find a solution, it is first of all necessary to understand what has led to this happening In this essay, I first of all examine the reasons for the rise in
youth crime, then I suggest how this problem may be resolved
Perhaps the principal cause of this rise in youth crime is the increased use of drugs and alcohol among young people Many cities suffer from the phenomenon of binge drinking
by teenagers who lose control under the influence of alcohol and commit crimes For instance, it is a common sight on the streets of Britain to see fights breaking out outside pubs and clubs Similarly, there is a clear connection between drug abuse among the young and crime It is still unfortunately the case that young people frequently see drugs as cool and become addicted It is a common occurrence for these addicts to resort to petty theft
in order to pay for their habit
There are a variety of potential ways of combatting this problem One possibility that is sometimes suggested is a much stricter system of penalties and punishments to deter young people from a life of crime That might work, but it would also be sensible to improve the system of education so that young people were better informed about the dangers of drugs and alcohol This should have the effect of dealing with the issues that cause youth crime in the first place
In conclusion, alcohol and drug abuse are among the primary reasons for the rise in young offenders and if the authorities wish to tackle youth crime, one approach would be to educate the young more effectively

Đề bài 5: In some countries, some criminal trials in law courts are shown on television so that the general public can watch Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
In recent years, criminal trials have been televised in some countries to allow the public an opportunity to watch them I believe, although there is advantage making trials public can lead to too much injustice and other problems
One of the main advantages of allowing court trials to be broadcast on TV is that the entire judicial system is open to the public to watch and supervise In some countries where the judicial system is corrupt it would be a step forward towards more justice by televising the trials as it is overseen by the public Another benefit is that opening the doors of the court room allows the public rights to information The public have a right to know the details of trials so that they can form their own opinions This is important in countries where the government has restricted public access to information
On the other hand, allowing trials to be shown on TV has serious consequences Firstly, the public might form opinions which are based on mass media bias and a lack of understanding
of the legal system This public and media pressure might affect the outcome of the trial and justice will not be served Secondly, the legal team might see this as an opportunity to promote themselves which means they may be distracted and not put all their attention into defending or prosecuting Lastly, the jury is supposed to decide the verdict but by televising the trial, the entire public removes the effectiveness of a jury system
In conclusion, regardless of the benefits, the disadvantages of an open televised trial can
be devastating due to public and media pressure which might result in a lack of justice

Đề bài 6: Some people advocate death penalty for those who committed violent crimes
Others say that capital punishment is unacceptable in contemporary society
Describe advantages and disadvantages of death penalty and give your opinion
Many people believe that death penalty is necessary to keep security system efficient in the society While there are some negative aspects of capital punishment, I agree with the view that without it we will become more vulnerable to violence
Death penalty can be considered unsuitable punishment for several reasons The strongest argument is that we have no rights to kill other humans Right to live is the basic right of any human being, and no one can infringe this right, irrespective of the person’s deeds Moreover, innocent people can face wrongful execution Such unfair sentences take away lives of innocent people and make other citizens lose faith in law and justice And besides, sometimes criminals repent of their acts In this case they should be given a second chance
to improve themselves
However, I believe that capital punishment is necessary in the society Firstly, it is an effective deterrent of major crimes The best method to prevent a person from committing crime is to show the consequences of his or her actions For example, the government of Pakistan has controlled the rate of terrorism by enforcing death penalties for the members
of terrorist organisations Secondly, the governments spend large sums of national budget
on maintenance of prisoners Instead, this money can be used for the development of the society and welfare of the people
To sum up, although capital punishment has some disadvantages, I think that it proves to
be the best way of controlling criminals, lessening governmental expenses and preventing other people from doing crimes

Đề bài 7: Recent figures show an increase in violent crime among youngsters under the age of 18 Some psychologists claim that the basic reason for this is that children these days are not getting the social and emotional learning they need from parents and
teachers To what extent do you agree or disagree with this option?
Psychologists claim that the rise in criminal activities among young people is due to the lack
of social and emotional guidance from teachers and parents I agree with the above statement to some extent; however, in my opinion, other social and economical factors also contribute to the surge in criminal offences
Parents and teachers play an important role in the moral development of children They are their source of guidance and support For example, a child who is bullied at school may
go up to his/her teacher for support Here it is the teacher who tells the students what is right and wrong By doing so the teacher is inculcating good values in the students However, nowadays, teachers only focus on academics; they do not spend time on instilling values Interactions between parents and children are also becoming fewer and fewer In many families now both parents work Long working hours prevent them from interacting with their children Children who don’t have a good rapport with their parents often turn
to other sources for support and guidance Unfortunately, such sources may get them into unhealthy or illegal activities like drinking, smoking and gambling Children who get into bad company will eventually become criminals Parents and teachers can prevent this from happening by providing children the emotional support they need
External influences such as media, availability of drugs and peer pressure also contribute to the rise in crime rates When commercials and movies glorify smoking and drinking, young people often get carried away and experiment with them They end up getting intoxicated and this increases their chances of committing crimes
To conclude, several factors contribute to the alarming increase of crimes all over the world Not getting emotional support from parents and teachers is one of them There are several other factors too Identifying and eliminating all of these factors is necessary to reduce crime rate among youngsters
