Period 55 Unit 8: THE STORY OF MY VILLAGE

Part C - Listening

I Objectives:

1 Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

- Know the changes in a small town on the South coast of England

+Language: - The past tense: used to

- The passive voice

- Vocabulary on villages

2 Skills: Listening: choose True/ False statements, fill in the gaps with one

suitable word, answer the questions

- Speaking: Discuss the changes in sts' hometown/ home village

3 Educational aims: Sts know the changes in a small town on the South

coast of England

II Materials: 1 Teacher: Lesson plan, board, textbook, casstte, speaker.

2 Students: Textbook, notebook, pens

III Methods: Integrated, mainly communicative.

IV Procedures:

1 Organizations: (2 mins)

- Ask students to answer some questions.

+ What is the date today?

+ Who is absent today?

2 Checking the old lesson:

a Before you listen: (8 mins)

* Give a picture about Popffero ask

students to answer the questions:

1 Have you heard of “ Popffero”?

2 Is it a village, a town or a city?

3 Where is it?

* Base on two pictures in the textbook and

work in groups to compare them to see the

changes of the town following the model in

the book

E.g:

- There didn't use to be any hotel in the

town

- Answer the questions

1 Yes, I have

2 It is a town

3 It is in England

- Work in groups to ask and compare the two pictures

- There used to be small houses

- Cows used to graze in the field

Eg In the past, the town used to have only

small old houses, but now there are many

tall buildings

- Ask some students to give their answer

then check and correct them

* Introduce some new words

- atmosphere (n): không khí

- resurface (v): trải lại mặt đường

- turn into (v): trở thành

- Read the words and ask sts to repeat

- Ask students to read the words in pairs

b While you listen: (20 mins)

+ Task 1:

Aims: Sts practise listening and marking

True/ False statements

- Tell students that they are going to listen to

a talk about the changes in a small town in

England

- Ask students to work in pairs, look at the

- Some students stand up and give their answer

- In the past, there were not any hotels, but now there is

a big hotel in the town

- In the past, the streets were small and narrow, but now they are replaced by wide and asphalted ones

- In the past, there used to have large pieces of grassland where you can see cattle grazing on both sides

of the roads, but now you can see tall houses and buildings instead

- In the past, there were a lot

of trees on the both side of streets, but now there are only a few or none

- Copy the words and phrases

- Listen and repeat

- Read the words in pairs and correct each other’s mistakes

- Some individuals read the words aloud

- Listen to the T

statements given and guess if they are true

or false

- Ask students find out keys words

- Ask students to listen to the talk and tick

the right column to indicate their answer and

+ Task 2:

Aims: Students practise listening for

specific information by filling in the gaps

with ONE word

- Ask students to have a look at the

paragraph in the textbook and to read them

in pairs and make sure they understand

them Encourage students guess the words

to fill in the gaps

- Ask students to listen to the tape once or

twice again to fill in the gaps with the

missing words

- Ask students to compare their answer in

pairs

- Play the tape once again, stop the tape

where necessary and conduct the correction

- Check students’ answer

c After you listen:(10 mins)

- Give students handouts and ask them work

- Work in pairs to guess if the statements are true or false

- Find out keys words

- Listen to the tape and do the task

- Compare their answer

- Give their answer
