UNIT 2: SCHOOL TALKS ( 5 tiết)

I - Mục tiêu:

Học sinh có thể:

- Nói tóm tắt về bản thân, tự giới thiệu bản thân

- Bắt đầu và kết thúc một hội thoại/ trao đổi ngắn

- Điền các thông tin cá nhân vào đơn xin học

II - Ngôn ngữ:

- Gerund and to-infinitive

- Wh-questions

III - Từ vựng:

- Words to ask for personal information in a form

- enjoy, love, like, agree, worried about, would you like to, promise, try

** Lưu ý: Phần điều chỉnh yêu cầu:

- After you read, trang 24, học sinh trung bình làm một trong 3 ý.

- Speaking, Task 4, trang 25, học sinh trung bình chọn thực hành một hoặc hai trong bốn ý

- Lexical items: Các từ vựng về liên quan đến chủ đề bài đọc

- Structures: Thì hiện tại

- Skills: + Filling in the blank ( Điền vào chỗ trống)

+ Answering the questions (Trả lời câu hỏi)

3 Về tư duy và thái độ:

- Học sinh luyện kỹ năng đọc hiểu đoạn văn thông qua việc hoàn thành các bài tập điền từ, thông tin vào chỗtrống và trả lời câu hỏi

- Học sinh biết đưa các kĩ năng đọc hiểu vào làm bài tập, biết nhận xét và đánh giá bài làm của bạn cũng như tự đánh giá kết quả học tập của bản thân

- Học sinh biết vận dụng thông tin trong bài để thảo luận và liên hệ thực tế

Activity 1:

Warm up

(2 minutes)

- Purpose: This activity put Ss at ease and lead them to the topic of the lesson “School talks”

- Instruction: Close books and discuss the question:

When you meet your friends, which of the following topics do you often talk about?

- Sports and games

o Form of learning: Pairwork

o Ss listen, think, discuss in pairs and answer the questions

o T listens and feedbacks

o T may give some other topics: food, fashion, make-up,

- Possible answers:

S1: When I meet my friends, I often talk about films, our study, and other students.

S2: I often talk about my favourite singers, some film stars, or my hobbies.

S3: I usually talk sports and games

- Evaluation: T elicits to the new lesson

- Task:

o T introduces the situation of the context.

o Writes words on board

o T reads, Ss listen and repeat

o T plays the tape once for students to listen the passage

- Resource: textbook, notebook, chalk, board

- Evaluation: T says Vietnamese meanings and call Ss stand up one by one to give the English equivalances

- T elicits: “You are going to read three talks given by a student, a teacher and his father about school Read and do the task follow”

o T instructs Ss to read the passage quickly and stop at the lines that contain these words

to guess their meanings

o T asks Ss to guess the meaning of the words based on the contexts in the sentences

(Eg: “language” is the noun, pay attention to phrases “learn English, because it’s an international language” to guess the meaning)

o T checks if Ss understand the words correctly

o T intructs students to use some strategies to do Task 1+ First, Ss should read though the sentences provided in the task to identify the part of speech of the word to fill in the blank (Eg: sentence 1 the word to fill in shoud be a

verb, in sentence 4 the word to fill in should be an adjective which goes with “with”)

+ Read the first sentence carefully to understand the meaning roughly

+ Read the words/phrases in the box to choose the most suitable one to fill in the blank+ Continue with the rest of the sentences

o T asks Ss work individually to do the task

o T asks Ss to exchange their answers with other Ss

o T goes around to observe

o T has some Ss raise their answers and give explanation of their choice

- Purpose: This activity focuses Ss on reading for specific information

- Instruction: Read the small talks again, and find out who

- Task:

o Form of learning: pairwork

o T allows enough time for Ss to read the text and nine statements carefully

o T instructs students how to do if they forget :

+ Skim the nine statements to understand them and underline key words

+ Decide what information they need to find in the text + Go back to the first statement and locate the information for the statement by findingthe key words in the passage and mark the place

+ Read the part carefully to find the answer

+ Continue with the rest of the statements

o T asks students to work in pairs

o T goes around to observe

o T calls Ss to answer the questions

- Resources: Textbook

- Evaluation: Check answers as a class and provide feedback

- Expected answer:

- Purpose: This activity focuses Ss on reading for specific information

- Instruction: Read the text again, and answer the questions

- Task:

o Form of learning: groupwork

o T allows enough time for Ss to read the text and five questions carefully

o T instructs students how to do if they forget : + Skim the six questions to understand them and underline key words + Decide what information they need to find in the text (Eg: look for questions words like “why” which indicates Ss should read for specific thing like a reason)

+ Go back to the first question and locate the information for the question by finding the key words in the passage and mark the place

+ Read the part carefully to find the answer Ss can use their own words + Continue with the rest of the questions

o T devides class into 4 groups, each group answer 2 questions

o T calls the leader of each group to answer the questions

- Resources: Textbook

- Evaluation: Check answers as a class and provide feedback

- Expected answer:

1 Where does Phong study ?

He studies at Chu Van An High school

2 What subjects does he study ?

He studies many subjects such as Maths , Physics , Chemistry , English

3 Why does he want to learn English ?

Because it is an international language

4 What does Miss Phuong say about her teaching profession ?

She says that teaching is hard work , but she enjoys it because she loves working with children

5 Why does man worry about his son’s travelling ?

Because his son has to ride his bike in narrow and crowded streets on the way to school

Activity 6:

(10 minutes)

After you read

- Purpose: This post-reading activity aims to help Ss summarize the main ideas learnt from the reading passage and develop Ss’ their speaking skills about “school talks”

- Instruction: Choose one of the three topics to talk about in 5 minutes

- Task:

o Form of learning : groupwork

o Divide class into 3 groups to discuss three topics

a.What subjects you like learning best and why.

b What you like and dislike doing at school

c What you worry about at school

- Evaluation: Call on some students to talk and give comments

- Suggested answers:

I like learning English best because it is very interesting to learn In class, we can exchange ideas and discuss various topics in English Besides, we play a lot of exciting and useful games At home, I can watch many TV programs such as films, game shows and talk shows

in English It is very interesting to watch TV shows and learn English at the same time.

Consolidation

(2 minutes) - The simple present tense is used to talk about Schook Talks.- Vocabulary of the reading passage

- Talk about one’s activities at school

- Assign homework:

+ Learn by heart all the new words and redo all tasks + Prepare for the next lesson : B – Speaking

- Học sinh có tinh thần hợp tác trong các hoạt động nhóm

Activity 1:

Warm up

(5 minutes)

- Purpose: This activity put Ss at ease and lead them to the topic of the speaking lesson

- Instruction: Rearrange sentences in correct order

4 Well, I'm bringing food to my sister in the hospital.

- Evaluation: Feedback and lead the class to the topic of speaking activities

(Today we are learning how to start and close a conversation in Unit 2, section B- speaking)

Pre-speaking

Activity 2:

Task 1

(5 minutes)

- Purpose: This activity helps Ss understand expressions used to start and close a conversation

- Instruction: Place the expressions under the appropriate headings Then practice with a partner

- Task:

o Form of learning: individually, pairwork

o T asks students to read all the expressions in the book and makes sure that students understand all the expressions:

+ how’s everything at school = how’s your study + catch up with you later = see you later

o Ask students to do the task individually, then compare the answers with a peer

o Go round and help if offer

o Calls on some Ss to give answers and explain their choice, then checks

o Give some topic and ask students make a conversation about that topic using the starting and closing of a conversation

I - Objectives (Mục đích, yêu cầu):

1 Về kiến thức:

Học sinh luyện tập và thực hành các kỹ năng nghe hiểu các đoạn hội thoại ngắn liên quan đến sinh hoạt hằng ngày diễn ra trong gia đình, trường học, khách sạn, tiệm ăn … thông qua việc hoàn thành các bài tập

2 Về kỹ năng:

- Lexical items: Các từ và cụm từ liên quan đến chủ đề bài nghe

- Structures: Thì hiện tại đơn, thì hiện tại tiếp diễn, thì quá khứ đơn, một số cấu trúc trong bài nghe

- Skills: + Nghe và sắp xếp tranh

+ Nghe và trả lời câu hỏi

+ Nghe và điền từ còn thiếu vào đoạn hội thoại

3 Về tư duy và thái độ:

- Học sinh hiểu được các đoạn hội thoại ngắn liên quan đến sinh hoạt hằng ngày diễn ra trong gia đình, trường học, khách sạn, tiệm ăn … để hoàn thành các bài tập

- Học sinh biết cách nhận xét tranh để kết hợp cùng khả năng nghe để làm bài tập sắp xếp tranh

- Biết nhận xét và đánh giá bài làm của bạn cũng như tự đánh giá kết quả học tập

- Chủ động phát hiện, chiếm lĩnh tri thức mới Có tinh thần hợp tác trong học tập

o T calls on some pairs to perform in front of the class

- Evaluation: Feedback and lead the class to the topic of listening activities

- Purpose: This activity focuses on Ss’ prediction about the listening passage

- Instruction: Work in pair and match a question in A with a response in B

- Task:

o Form of learning: pairwork

o Ask students about the topic which we are talking about?

o Possible answers: School activities/ subjects

o Ask Ss to work in pairs and match a question in A with a response in B

o Go around to observe and help if necessary

o Call some pairs to ask and answer

- Evaluation: Comment, guide the content of the listening lesson

- Expected answer: 1-c, 2-e, 3-a, 4-b, 5-d

- If time allowed, T encourages Ss to discuss the topics further

- Purpose: This activity helps Ss to revise and practise some key words in the listening passage

+ enjoy oneself (n): somebody does something and likes it: hứng thú + go for a swim (v): đi bơi

o T reads, Ss listen and repeat

o Some Ss read aloud, others comment

o T explains through examples or synonyms

o T asks students to give Vietnamese equipment, teacher checks

- Purpose: This activity focuses on listening for specific information

- Instruction: Listen to the conversations and match them with the pictures.

- Task:

o Form of learning : individual work

o Ask students to look at all the pictures and guess the order, pay attention to the typical features in each

o Help students elicit the pictures to guess the order of the picture

o Ask Ss:

─ What do you see behind them?

─ Do you think they are travelling?

o Call each students for each picture

o Play the tape again and pause at each line/ sentence containing the answers

- Resource: Pictures in the textbook, radio, tape, tapescript

- Evaluation: Give feedback and correct answer

- Purpose: This activity focuses on listening for specific information and inference

- Instruction: Listen again and answer the questions.

- Task:

o Form of learning : individual work

o Ask Ss to read the questions in the textbook carefully and underline key words

o Let Ss make guesses first, based on the previous time of listening Encourage all possible answers and explanations

o Write their guesses on the board so they can see if the guesses are correct later
