UNIT 1: Noun Danh từ

Danh từ là từ để gọi tên một người, một vật, một sự việc, một tình trạng hay một cảm xúc

Danh từ có thể được chia thành hai loại chính:

- Danh từ chung (common nouns): là danh từ dùng làm tên chung cho một loại như: table (cái bàn), man (người đàn ông), wall (bức tường), happiness sự hạnh phúc

- Danh từ riêng (proper nouns): là tên riêng như: Peter, Jack, England…

Đuôi danh từ chỉ người/vật

When the suffix -ant, -or/-er, or -ee is added to a verb or and adjective, a noun which means “a

person who does an action” is formed

Một số danh từ bất quy tắc có đuôi tính từ

AL: withdrawal / arrival/ approval :Rút tiền/ đến/ chấp thuận

IVE: objective/ representative/ initiative/ alternative : mục tiêu/ đại diện/ bước đầu quan trọng/thay thế

Những tính từ tận cùng bằng -al, -ial, -id, -ile, -ure: thêm đuôi -ity thành danh từ

Valid => (tính hiệu lực, giá trị pháp lý)

Pure => (sự tinh khiết)

Fertile -> (sự màu mỡ)

Những tính từ tận cùng bằng -ant hay -ent: bỏ -t, sau đó thêm -ce thành danh từ

Intelligent => (sự hiểu hiết, khả năng hiểu biết)

Một số danh từ được tạo nên từ động từ: bằng cách thêm đuôi -ion/-ation/-ment:

Manage => (người quản lý)

Drive => (người lái xe)

Teach => (giáo viên)

Visit => (khách du lịch)

Assist => (trợ lý)

Consult => (tư vấn viên)

Chú ý đuôi ant là đuôi tính từ, chỉ có một số từ đuôi ant chỉ người là danh từ như: assistant, accountant,attendant, participant Ngoài ra một số tính từ +ness / ry/ ship -> danh từ

Trước đây chúng ta được học là tính từ đuôi “ed” dùng để miêu tả người, tính từ đuôi “ing” dùng để miêu tả vật nhưng cách sử dụng này không đúng

Ex:

You’re boring You came here to see me and then can’t take your eyes off your cellphone (Cậu chán thật Cậu tới đây để gặp tớ và sau đó cậu dán mắt vào điện thoại) Trong trường hợp này, người bạn chỉ biết chụp ảnh mang lại cảm giác chán cho người đối thoại, nên dù chủ ngữ là người, tính từ cần dùng lại là “boring” chứ không phải “bored”)

Note: Với những tính từ được thành lập từ động từ thêm hậu tố luôn sử dụng “more” trong câu so sánh hơn và “most” trong câu so sánh nhất

Điều kiện để có thể biến đổi 1 câu từ chủ động thành bị động:

– V trong câu chủ động phải là Transitive Verb (Ngoại động từ: đòi hỏi có O theo sau)

– Các O (trực tiếp, gián tiếp) phải được nêu rõ ràng

Quy tắc:

Khi biến đổi 1 câu từ chủ động sang bị động ta làm theo các bước sau:

a Xác định S, V, O và thì của V trong câu chủ động

b Lấy O trong câu chủ động làm S của câu bị động

c Lấy S trong câu chủ động làm O và đặt sau By trong câu bị động

d Biến dổi V chính trong câu chủ động thành PP2 (Past Participle) trong câu bị động

e Chia tobe theo thì của câu chủ động

Mẹo: chu ngữ là vật thì thường bị động, nếu câu đã có tân ngữ danh từ đứng sau động tù thì hiếm khi

là câu bị động
