20 Proven Strategies to Sponsor Motivated Prospects….

Introduction

If you have just started, or are thinking of starting your own Home Based Business, within the Network Marketing Industry… I applaud you

It is very rare for someone just starting in our business, to be dynamic

enough to be looking for ways to build their business - outside of those

methods taught by their sponsor and up-line

You undoubtedly can see the incredible potential of this booming business model, and are probably looking for ways you can make the opportunity

work best for you

If on the other hand, you have been

with your Network Marketing company

for a while, have not seen any real

success yet, but are still determined to

make it work…

…I applaud you even more.

Statistics show the vast majority of

network marketers will give up or quit, within just 6 months of starting their business That really is a tragedy, because there are now so many ways of achieving success in our industry that almost anybody can find a way in which they can be confident and comfortable enough to

succeed

All the trends and latest indications are suggesting that our business could

be about to experience exponential growth Not just for now, but for

the foreseeable future

Trang 6

Economically the world is changing – the days of a “job for life” and the

“security” from working for a large corporation which was once taken for

granted, is disappearing fast

As a society our values are changing – we aspire to spend less time

commuting and at work, and more time with our family and friends

Most people would love the opportunity to work from home and ‘earn an

income’ for themselves - rather than have ‘job’ and work for someone else

If we accept this is the case for many people, what are the options?

Well, establishing and making a success of your own traditional, small

business is not that easy and can be risky - with as many as 80% failing

within the first 5 years

Starting your own franchise business does offer greater support and a much higher possibility of success But with minimum start up fees around the £10k mark and the average probably around £20k+ - this option is beyond reach for most people

As you are already aware, a Network Marketing business can really be

considered as a “Low Cost Franchise business” You have very similar

levels of brand awareness, product development and training and support

- but with a minimal entry fee.

So why do so many Network Marketers not go on to make a success of

their business?

Well, one reason could be because it is so inexpensive to get involved

Trang 7

20 Proven Strategies to Sponsor Motivated Prospects….

Probably in the past, most people did not appreciate that it was a proper

business they were getting involved with, or did not treat it seriously enough if they did Also in the past, our industry may have not had the level of credibility it is now developing

In recent years, many influential

businessmen and entrepreneurs

have spoken out about how

“genuine and viable” the

Network Marketing business model

is today

Some, such as Warren Buffett,

Donald Trump and Richard Branson

have gone much further than that

and invested in their own Network Marketing companies

For these, and many other reasons, it looks likely that the Network Marketing Industry is on the brink of a massive boom all around the

world

But hey, you probably already know this – don’t you?

You have already done your due diligence and understand this business

presents an incredible opportunity – but you want to know how you are

going to be able to grow and succeed in your business

The fantastic news is that there are now so many ways – many more than the 20 that I talk about here – that anyone should be able find at

least one they are confident to work with, and build their business

Trang 8

It wasn’t intentional when I set out, but I found that these “20 Proven

Strategies…” can roughly be split into three groups.

The first six are all methods to build your business locally and mainly at

no, or very low cost They are not necessarily all about finding prospects from people you already know, but mostly do involve face to face contact with people

The next seven strategies are more “remote” methods of prospecting, in that you are attracting ‘pre-qualified’ people to you, through both local and even national advertising

There are some costs involved in all of these methods, but for most they shouldn’t be too expensive or beyond reach

The final seven strategies are all free, bar one, and centre on one of my favourite mediums for attracting prospects and customers to your

Network Marketing business – the World Wide Web

In many ways, prospecting on the internet is still in its infancy, but it

means that it is now just as possible to sponsor someone into your business from America or Australia, as it is from Aldershot!

Isn’t that just so exciting?

What’s more… if you do it right, you have the opportunity to build even

stronger business relationships online than you can offline This is

because you will attract people that are more similar to you - in their

goals, mindset, values and aspirations

Trang 9

20 Proven Strategies to Sponsor Motivated Prospects….

Whichever of these proven strategies you use to attract customers and prospects to your Network Marketing business, you should already know

that you are in the numbers business

It is not your job to sell, persuade or convince…… but simply to PRESENT

your opportunity

Once you truly understand this and have confidence in this wonderful

opportunity that you have to offer people – you will then start to relax and have fun with it

Isn’t that really what life should be about?

1 Talking to Friends, Family and Acquaintances

This is almost certainly where your sponsor and up-line will encourage you

to begin, when you start prospecting for your new business

“Write your list”… “Who do

you want to join you in your

new business?”… “Select your

board of directors”…

They will be able to help by

working through your contact list

with you and suggesting the best

ways to approach people

The majority of leaders will take part in 3 Way Calls and do most of the

presentation for you when you are first getting started Your only job is to

‘INVITE’.

Many people will be very confident using this approach straight off They will follow their upline’s directions to the letter, and probably get off to a fantastic start

But equally as many people will not feel confident in talking to their

friends and family so early in the development of their new business – or they genuinely may not have many close people they can talk to

In another e-book that I have written, “How to Make It BIG in Network

Marketing Without Losing Your Friends” – which you can grab from

the link - I talk about this whole topic in much more detail

Trang 11

20 Proven Strategies to Sponsor Motivated Prospects….

Whether you do or you don’t approach your warm market as your very

first prospects, there are a few points you must follow.

1) You must take the time to sit down and “write your list” of everyone

that you can think of that you know or have ever met Even if you don’t

plan to contact anyone on it straightaway, or are 99% sure that they

would never be interested – put EVERYBODY down on that list Keep it

somewhere safe and keep adding to it as you think of someone new

Often when you do this exercise a person may just leap out at you as someone that you think may well be interested If you want help with preparing your list, Click Here for my Memory Jogger

2) Whenever you meet people, be prepared for what you are going to say

when they are ask, “And what you are up to these days?” You need to

come across as confident and enthusiastic, but not to see it as an

invitation to perform a fully blown presentation there and then

Ask other people in your organisation for what they use as their “elevator speech” and find something that you are comfortable with It’s not always what you say, but the confident and assured way in which you deliver it

3) Never beg or plead with people to come and hear about your

opportunity Don’t say “Please” or “Can you have a look at it, just for

me” You do not want to come across as ‘needy’

At the same time, you do not want to come across as arrogant either –

but it is you that could be doing them a favour, not the other way

around If you can maintain this belief at all times, people will pick up on

it wherever you go

Trang 12

4) There will be many times, particularly in your early days, when you

know that you have not done the best possible job of presenting your opportunity to people If you don’t – you’re not talking to enough people!

There is no reason why you cannot go back to them again, at a later stage, when you feel much more confident and competent about what you have to offer

This can be particularly true after an early, clumsy approach to a friend

You have a responsibility to your friends and family to show them your

opportunity You need to give them the chance to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ – and

preferably sooner rather than later

If in two years time, a long term friend, told you he was now earning

£10k a month from his fantastic

home based business –wouldn’t you feel more than a little upset if he

hadn’t even told you about it?

When you present your opportunity to a friend or family member, you will

want to give them the best possible chance to make an informed

decision

Why not ask the most successful leader that you have contact with, to do the three way call or presentation for you They should be happy to do it

This way, you know that your friend will get the best possible presentation

of the business AND they will believe that you already have high up

connections within your organisation It’s a double whammy!

Trang 13

20 Proven Strategies to Sponsor Motivated Prospects….

Finally, if you are still worried about approaching your warm market, think

But, if you introduce your opportunity to a friend and they do get involved

and are very successful, how long is it going to be on their mind then?

Every time they see you… every week… every day…

every time they wake up in their detached 5 bedroom house

every time get in their luxury sports car

every time they drop their child off at the private school

every time they fly first class to their 5 star holiday

every time they are playing golf or riding their horse, whilst

everyone else is sat in a traffic jam on the motorway…………

Don’t leave it too long

2 Party Presentations

When people think of “Party Presentations” it is either Ann Summers

or, if you’re old enough, the original Tupperware parties - that will probably be the first to spring to mind

Even if it doesn’t apply to your opportunity, there are dozens of

companies that do promote their ‘product’ in this way.

Cosmetics, Clothing, Jewellery, Cookware, Cleaning Products, Candles,

Gift Items and a wide range of Health and Wellness products, can all be promoted through Party Presentations For many this is their main

Trang 15

20 Proven Strategies to Sponsor Motivated Prospects….

If you have a satisfied customer who knows, likes and trusts you, it is likely that they will have a serious look at your business - if they are

interested in ways to earn an extra income

If it is a recognised form of prospecting within your company, they will have training and tools for your presentation If it isn’t, there is no reason why you can’t devise your own - if this is a business building strategy you want to pursue

Make it interesting and educational Emphasise the benefits rather than the features Tell stories and include testimonials Present your product and your opportunity – don’t sell it Use a DVD if your company has one and let them see, touch and even try the product

Keep it simple and straight forward – you want it to be a presentation

your guests know they can duplicate!

If you do it right, you will see them thinking “Who do I know that

might be interested in this?”

Offering to hold a Party Presentation for a potential prospect, can be a great way to get them in your organisation They may be very interested

in the business, but are not confident enough to present it themselves, or they just want to see how their friends respond

They are looking to “test the water” and for reassurance this could be a good “fit” for them.

Of course this is a situation from which you cannot lose They do all the inviting; your audience should feel relaxed and unthreatened; you could sell some product and hopefully recruit this person into your business

Trang 16

Even if they decide not to get involved at this time, you will have met 4,

5 or 6 other people you can follow up with

If you are still new to the business, you will get your upline to do the presentation for you

If you are comfortable with this strategy of business building, it can be a

very fast way of growing your organisation – especially in the early days.

Network marketing is all about working with people to help them to be

successful This is a great way to demonstrate true teamwork and

support

3 CD Presentations

Using CD‘s to promote your opportunity, offers a system the majority of people will be comfortable to work with

This is because it provides a very efficient, professional, risk free and

easily duplicable method to build a business.

How many people could not say –

“I want to show you something It’ll take about 20 minutes You may or may not be interested”

Almost every opportunity will have a CD you can use to prospect people to

your organisation You might think “Well we also have DVD’s and links

to websites” – so why is the CD still so favoured by many top Network

Marketers?

It’s because it is so convenient

People have to make time to sit down and watch a DVD or to log on and tour a website But with a CD they can play it in the car, or listen to it whilst they are cooking dinner or doing the family ironing etc

Many people have built the foundations of huge businesses using this

single strategy – here are just a few of the reasons why

1) It takes YOU out of the equation and gives your prospect the best

possible explanation of the business

Trang 18

You will not come away with the feeling “Oh no, why did I say that” or

“I forgot to say that” – “I’m sure that they would have been

interested if I had presented it better” We have ALL done it

2) It answers the two main questions your prospect will have in their mind

“What do I do? Where do I begin?” It presents them with a simple

system to follow that is easily duplicable

3) It is risk free There is no fear of rejection or need to handle objections There will also be fewer questions because most of them will have been anticipated and already answered

4) It makes it easier to build your organisation in depth, because it

empowers inexperienced people to do the business The message is

consistent and doesn’t get changed It levels the playing field

5) It is a great leverage of your time, as it can get the message out to

many people within just a few days It also means that people you bring

on board can get a fast start in their business too And so on down the line

6) It takes distance out of the equation If you can’t meet someone face

to face, you can call them and let them know that you would like to send them something in the post that they just have to listen to

7) Finally, it gives the message to a new prospect, “I can do this, it’s

easy”

Trang 19

20 Proven Strategies to Sponsor Motivated Prospects….

When you use this method of business building, it is still important that you come across as confident and excited when you give them the CD It

is also very important to give them a short time frame to listen to it – otherwise they may just leave it on a shelf and never get around to it

Ask if they will have time to listen to it tonight or tomorrow - as you have someone else that you have to pass it on to

This will create a sense of urgency and it also means that you can get

your CD back and hand it on to someone else

4 Talks to Groups and Organisations

OK, you do have to be a little bit outgoing and comfortable meeting

people you don’t know (yet) – but this is an excellent way to get your

message across to a large amount of people all in one go

Just a quick glance through your local newspaper will highlight the

activities of dozens, if not hundreds, of local community groups and

societies that exist in your area

More often than not, they will mention their “guest speaker” and thank them for their contribution

This week, at the time writing this report, my

local Women’s Institute, thanked their

speaker for her “talk on Cartimandua –

Queen of Brigantes”??

… No me neither!!

But the point is that these groups are just

crying out for guest speakers and if you can

devise an informational and educational presentation about your business, they will probably be more than happy to have you

The vast majority of these groups are small and very ‘niche’ and it would

not be a worthwhile use of your time But a handful of them may be.

Despite my comment about the WI, they are often a good group to talk to because they are often well attended and have a wider age range these days, than the traditional image portrays

Trang 21

20 Proven Strategies to Sponsor Motivated Prospects….

There are also a wide variety of groups and organisations which will not usually appear in these reports The ones you decide to target will depend

on your opportunity and whether you aim to lead with the product or the business

If you are promoting a Health and Wellness product, there are a lot of

‘self-help’ organisations that open up to you There are groups for almost

every ailment and human condition you can think of; Asthma, Arthritis,

Diabetes, Skin Conditions, ME – in fact any condition that your product

has shown to be of help with

Just remember not to make any outrageous or medical claims – this

would be catastrophic for your business A strong, direct pitch should also

be avoided on the day Overall this strategy is probably more likely to attract customers rather than business builders, but it does depend on the group

The main prospecting issue with these presentations is that people may think the only way to build a business is by doing these talks Most will

not want to do this and to them it will not seem duplicable.

A way to get around this would be, to just touch on the opportunity side and invite them to see an upcoming business briefing at a different time

The best thing about this approach is that you will develop confidence in

speaking to people and a much great depth of knowledge about the

benefits of your product

At the same time, you will definitely sell some product and you may just pick up a nugget of a distributor along the way

© 20 10 BetterLife Solutions

Trang 22

5) Press Releases

Having an article about you in any

publication can add tremendous

credibility to your business

It makes you stand out and maybe

even appear more serious than other

distributors in your area

It makes you the “go to” person, or the “expert”, for your product or

service

Even when the initial interest from the article has died down, it is

something that you can continue to refer to in your future marketing

The best thing is however, an article or editorial is much more powerful and more likely to be read, than an advert – and it’s FREE!!

Contrary to what you might think, it isn’t that hard to get a free feature in your local newspaper Just like the Groups and Organisations in Chapter

4, reporters are often crying out for material to fill this week’s column

In my local newspaper where my business was featured, the journalist writes four to five columns a week – so she obviously needs a continuous supply of ideas and threads on which to draw

Understanding this can greatly increase your chances of getting published. They are usually very busy people, constantly on a deadline - so the easier you can make it for them - the better The more “ready to use”

Trang 23

20 Proven Strategies to Sponsor Motivated Prospects….

information that you provide and the less they have to “work” on extra background research, the greater your likelihood of publication will be

I never even met the journalist who wrote my feature article

I sent her the Press Release by e-mail and followed it up with a phone call

a few days later to make sure she had received it She said that she

planned to use the story, in her column, in a couple of week’s time and we had one more brief conversation before she wrote the piece

She was able to write the article without leaving her desk!

BUT, just because you have something that you are really excited to tell

the world about, it doesn’t mean the journalist will see it in the same way

The first thing you have to do, is to consider what angle it is you want to

lead with? What makes your story relevant to other people? What makes

it newsworthy?

These are just some of many possible angles that you could consider as you start to think about how you are going to approach your Press

Release

Do you want to lead with the product or the business solution?

Have you got a brand new product that is just being launched?

Has your product/business received any national attention recently?

How has your product/business helped anyone in a particular way?

Can you associate your product/business to anything that is a topical news story in the general media at the moment?

What can your product/service offer to local people?

Have you overcome any personal adversity to get where you are in

business?

Trang 24

If you Google “Press Releases” or “Press Release Templates” you will

find many good sites where you can get help on composing your story However, the main questions that you need to answer for the reporter are

- who, what, when, where and why.

Whilst you are thinking about your Press Release, read through the local newspapers and decide which journalist or column will be most suited for what you have to say

It is best to directly approach the reporter for whom you think your story

is the best “fit” If you send your Press Release to the “Features Editor” or

“Assistant News Editor”, it is less likely that your story will get through

Whether you send your Press Release by e-mail or post, you should

always follow it up with a phone call, to make sure they have received it

If it is not right for them right now, ask them if it is something they may

be interested in at a later date

Or, ask them what it is they might be interested in (you could do this even before you even start your story in the first place) It may be that you could restructure your Press Release to suit a different angle – have a couple of possibilities in mind when you talk to them

I have talked here only about Press Releases in local newspapers, because

this is a lot more realistic for most people You can approach regional or

national publications, but your angle will have to be something really special or particularly topical, to attract their attention

20 Proven Strategies to Sponsor Motivated Prospects….

6 Networking Events

Networking events are one of the marketing activities that strike the fear

of dread into many people

Yet we all ‘network’, all of the time

With our friends in the pub…In the

staff restaurant during lunch break…

In the playground collecting our

children from school…On the touchline

of the football pitch on a freezing cold

Sunday morning…In the local shops…At a family gathering or dinner party… Even online with people that we have never met face to face.

Networking is just interacting and talking to other people and building a rapport or relationship with them We build both social and business networks - and sometimes they become entwined

(See Chapter 1, Talking to Friends, Family and Acquaintances, for

the best way to approach this)

For several months when I first started my network marketing business, I was reluctant to attend local networking events But when I finally did, I had to wonder why it was I had waited so long!

Organised business networking events are the very best way to start to talk to people about your business - because everyone is there for

exactly the same reason To talk about their own small business!

Trang 26

It is the best way to develop and practice how to present your business -

in just a minute or a couple of sentences This is because you can listen to

how lots of other people present their businesses.

It is always the etiquette to spend more time listening than talking, but

this is even more important if you have just started your business and are attending your first few networking events

Just go along, get a feel for things and start speaking to people about what it is they do

Take a keen and genuine interest in their business and, if you get to

know, like and trust them, start to think how you may be able to help

them

It may be that you, or people you know, will have need of their product or service in the future

It is here that you can start to nurture relationships with people that

may want to do the same for you

There will be many business networking events taking place in your area every month, but you want to find the ones that are aimed at small, sole trader businesses like yourself

Chambers of Commerce, Business Link and internet search engines can identify them for you Some will be free, whilst others will charge you to become a “member”

BNI is one of the most well known independent networking organisations

and has over 640 “chapters” in the UK - each having up to a maximum of

40 members

Trang 27

20 Proven Strategies to Sponsor Motivated Prospects….

They do charge an annual fee and are strict on regular attendance, but it

is possible to attend one or two meetings before deciding if it is right for you – and to promote your business

The main purpose of business networking is to practice and hone your

mini-presentation skills, on people that are open and receptive to what

you have to say

Also they may know people that are interested in the products or

opportunity that you are promoting, OR be interested in an additional

income stream to run along side their own business

I view networking, or talking to people, as the process of planting many

seeds You never know which ones will find fertile ground, sprout roots, grow and blossom – but if you plant enough… some will

Someone you meet and talk to today, could in 1 month, 6 months or 1 year, turn out to be a huge part of your future success – personally or through someone they know

I always believe that

7) Flyers

Now we move on to some more “local” prospecting strategies – but in all

of these methods, a level of expense is involved This expense can be

“minimised” if you work with other members of your team and “co–op”

together, to share the costs and equally divide any leads

You will have no doubt heard the phrase “It’s a numbers game” Well, that is true for any method of marketing (and not just in our business) –

but here on in, is where it really rings true

Many companies will have proven and

pre-approved flyers you can purchase to promote

your own business

You will be able to personalise them with your

own contact details, but everything else will

stay the same for everyone in your

opportunity

This usually means that they have negotiated incredible rates that are at a much lower cost than you could get from your local printer If not, there should be nothing to stop you from getting them printed yourself

However if you are designing your own flyers, most companies will want

you to get their approval before being printed - to make sure they are compliant and that you are not making any false claims or promises

If you are designing your own flyer, you need to test it (and spell check it!) before you print off too many copies You don’t want to pay for 10,000 flyers, only to find that they don’t work because of a few basic marketing errors

Trang 29

20 Proven Strategies to Sponsor Motivated Prospects….

The most important purpose of a flyer is to get people to contact you for

more information One of the most effective ways to achieve this is to

provide a 24 hour a day Recorded Message service

This is appealing to your prospect, because they know they are not

going to have to speak to you in person - someone who may try and

convince them and give them the “real hard sell”.

It should be appealing to you, because it means that no-one is going to

roll home drunk from the pub at 1am - and call you… just for a laugh!

There are a number of quality services available that allow your prospect

to call a local rate number and listen to a 2 -3 minute recorded message

If they want to know more, they can leave their contact details for you to call them back

The average cost will be around £15 per month in the UK OR you can find out how to get a Free Recorded Message Service that you can use in

the UK, by Clicking Here

When you have your flyers, you need to decide where and how you are going to distribute them This will depend on whether you are leading with promoting your product or your opportunity You may want to try and

“target” your distribution somewhat, but don’t forget that it can be

dangerous to try and pre-judge who may or may not be interested

Also remember that people very rarely “buy” at the first approach

Research shows that most will need to be made aware of your “offer” at least 7 or 8 times before considering a “purchase”

With any type of marketing, keep in mind that consistency and

repetition are key

Trang 30

With a flyer, people may respond when they have seen it a number of times in various locations If you are doing mail drops, you may have to

do it every 6 – 8 weeks for 6 months before you start to see a response

Here are just some ways in which you can use flyers to promote your business

– Do your own door to door mail drops – or pay your teenager!

- Ask your newsagent if you can put them in all the weekend newspapers

- Place it as an insert in a local advertising booklet

- Have it delivered by Royal Mail (feasible if working in a team co-op)

- With permission, place them in locations where people “wait” or where you have their undivided attention, eg doctors and dentists waiting

rooms, bus and train stations, taxi waiting rooms, hairdressers and

barbers, sports clubs and gyms, petrol station counters as people wait for their card to be processed, local shops, etc, etc

***GREAT TIP***Get Your Flyers For Free***

If one of your marketing strategies is to do regular door to door mail

drops, why not approach other local “unrelated” businesses to see if they

want any flyers handed out at the same time

Guarantee that you will only deal with one of each business type each

drop ie, 1 restaurant, 1 hairdresser, 1 beauty therapist – up to probably 5

or 6 businesses in total

Agree to deliver 500 flyers (which they provide) at the same time as you are distributing yours If you charge £10 - £15 per business, you will have between £50 and £90 which will easily pay for your flyers… And a bit

more on top – for a job that you were going to do anyway!!

8) Local Ads

You may think there is a close link between Flyers and Local Ads because you could easily post a flyer in a shop window or on a notice board But for the purposes of this report, I want to separate the two by defining a

“Local Ad” as being a “fixed” marketing tool and a “Flyer” as something

that can be “picked up and moved around”

Local ads will typically be the posters or postcards that you see displayed

in local shop windows, or inside supermarkets and convenience stores on their ‘Ads’ boards The majority will be promoting the opportunity that is available, rather than the product or service a company offer

I’m sure you will have seen them before, but when you see them from now on, have a much closer look to see what you think is good about the

ad – and what isn’t! Get ideas for your ads by looking at others.

Most companies or leaders will be able to provide you with tried and tested “templates”, from which to create your own ads

These will usually have more of a personal, “small business” slant to

them and are often specifically tailored For example, you will sometimes

see Local Ads targeting “Mums at Home” or “Recently Retired?”

It has been shown that people are more likely to respond to a personal, home produced Local Ad than they are to a ‘glossier’ more professional looking poster This could be because they feel more comfortable working with someone local, who they will be able to personally connect with – rather than a large, “faceless” organisation

I know someone who, a few years ago, had a great response from his postcard ads He used to get some ladies in a local retirement home to

Trang 32

write out his postcards, because they had such beautiful, stylish and

legible handwriting - the like of which is rarely seen anymore

As with the flyers, it is still much better to include a contact number linked

to a 24 hour Recorded Message Service – this will be a more comfortable way for more people to call and find out more about your opportunity

If you really want to show that you are a local business, and you are

happy to speak to people directly with initial enquiries – include your home number as well Just give your prospects the option

Some shops may let you display your ads for free, but many will charge between 50p and £1 a week If your ‘advertising budget’ is limited, you will need to consider how you can use it most effectively

If we agree that repetition and consistency are ‘key’ to success in our

business, you would be far better off spending your money on ads in the

same 5 – 10 shops or advertising boards for three or four consecutive

months, rather than posting in 5 – 10 different locations each month

Another strategy to consider is:-

Do I place my ads in 5 – 10 locations within a relatively “compact” area of town, so that people see it wherever they go and it becomes ‘ingrained’ in

their mind, OR…

Do I place my ads all over the area around where I live – one in each

‘district’ - and expose my business to a far larger number of people?

Finally, when you place your ads, don’t pay for more than a month at any one time This allows you to ‘tweak’ your postcard or poster if you need

to, as you continue through your planned campaign

9) Opportunity Cards on Windscreens

It may not be everyone’s idea of a ‘professional’ marketing approach, but

it is a very inexpensive way of promoting your business – and it does work

Imagine someone arriving back in the station car park at 7.30pm on a

cold, damp winter’s evening He’s had an awful day at work – and it’s still

only Monday!! Do you think that he may be tempted to find out about a

possible work from home opportunity?

Or, the mum arriving back at the shopping centre car park… She couldn’t afford to buy everything she needed for her family today - and it is still

another week until pay-day Do you think that she may be interested in

hearing about a useful second income opportunity?

And it is a great and very genuine opportunity that you are offering…

isn’t it?

Trang 34

You could use your flyers, but that can work out to be expensive Most people use special “‘business card sized”, Business Opportunity cards that

usually cost less than 1p each Your only objective is for them to call

your 24 hour message service or visit your website

I wouldn’t think of putting a personal telephone number on these cards or flyers because most car parks will want to discourage you from putting your ads on cars The main reason being, they have to clear them up if people discard them on the ground

As long as it is not prolific a problem in your area – you probably wont have any more come back than being told “it’s not allowed” – and that’s if you are spotted by someone who actually cares!

Dedicated supermarket car-parks may be more of an issue, and may not

be worth the bother There are probably enough council run car-parks to keep you busy anyway

If you are not just looking to build your distributor base locally – and you

definitely should be looking further a field – why not visit out of town

shopping centres Also don’t forget temporary special event car-parks – such as for festivals, carnivals and concerts etc

Finally although I have called this chapter “Opportunity Cards on

Windscreens” it is actually much better to stick them between the seal

and the glass of the driver’s window They will then see it as they get into their car and not just as they have got comfortably seated and are

preparing to drive off!!

We all know how annoying that is!

10 Local and Regional Newspaper Ads

Here again, we are talking mainly about marketing your opportunity,

rather than your product or service

If you want to market your product in any

newspaper or magazine, you would need to

place a well designed (and preferably

proven) ad in the main part of your local

newspaper

For a sustained campaign of at least 8 – 10 appearances this would

probably run from many hundreds to over a thousand pounds

With my previous business, I took out a full 2 page “editorial type”

advertisement in my local Go Local magazine

This is one of these monthly local advertising and features magazines, which are delivered free to every household within your neighbourhood

There are over 5000 distributed in my area and they are generally well

received and used

My double page spread in the middle of the magazine looked really good

(well I thought it did) and cost just under £200 But I didn’t get a single lead from the ad This was 18 months ago, and before I understood the

importance of consistency and repetition, over big and bold

Maybe I should have followed it up with smaller and cheaper ads – maybe this wasn’t the right vehicle for advertising my product in the first place?

Trang 36

The truth is, I’ll never know because I didn’t ‘test’ it for long enough to

find out

That is why, if week in, week out, you keep seeing the same “Work From

Home” or “Need A Second Income” ads in the back of your local

newspaper - you know that they work

That is really what we are talking about in this section - the Classified

“line ads” - in the Jobs or Situations Vacant section

When you look at people advertising any vacancy or opportunity in this

section, you will notice that there are two different types of ads - Box Ads

or Line Ads

It will be no surprise to find out that Box Ads are more expensive, but it

may be a surprise to hear that Line Ads are almost always more effective – for our type of opportunity If you are interested in this type of

marketing, use line ads and be prepared to repeat them for 8 – 10 weeks

Start monitoring other peoples ads and think about modelling your ad on theirs If there is a 24 hour recorded message service, give it a call Visit any advertised website

Contact you local newspaper to enquire about their advertising costs for a

3 - 4 line ad, but you should always resist paying their first quoted “Rate

Card” fees You will almost certainly be able to get a discount of between

30 and 50% - for any number of reasons

For being a first time advertiser, booking multiple weeks at a time or just

by asking for their best possible rate.

Trang 37

20 Proven Strategies to Sponsor Motivated Prospects….

In many cases you will be able to get much better “value” by having your

ad published in their “sister” publications – usually newspapers in nearby local areas

Costs will vary on the size of the distribution and how keen they are to attract advertising revenue – but you should be able to negotiate a deal that works out to be under £10 per ad

If your budget is tight, this is where you can start to form “co-ops” and

share the costs and leads, with team members or other distributors.

11 National Newspapers and Magazines

You may think that the only difference between Local and National

Advertising would be the price? Well in reality it is, but even that may

not be as great a difference as you might have thought.

For the extra cost, you would be expecting to see an increase in the

quantity or the quality (or both), of the people that you are presenting

your opportunity to

The cheapest price should not necessarily be the deciding factor It is more important that you consider which publication is most likely to have the readership that you are looking to attract to your opportunity

Apart from this, your main consideration should be whether you have the

structure to effectively support and coach your business outside of your

local area If you don’t have this, you will just be wasting your money

Advertising rates will vary and change, but I can give you an indication from some enquiries I made when writing this report, in January 2010

The Sun newspaper advertises Business Opportunities in its Classified

Section and quoted me a Rate Card Price of £98 + Vat for 1 week of its standard size ‘Box Ad’ When I asked what discount they could give to run the ad for 6 weeks, the price came down to £75 + VAT per week

At the other end of the scale is The Sunday Times, who have a Business

to Business section within their Business Supplement For a typical ‘Line Ad’ of just 3 lines I was quoted £54 + VAT - and £18 + VAT per line for any additional lines This was much cheaper than I had anticipated

Trang 39

20 Proven Strategies to Sponsor Motivated Prospects….

They do not give any discount for multiple weeks with Line Ads, but they would for a Box Ad

One of our team had quite a large Box Ad in the Daily Mail recently and

negotiated the initial quote of £300 down to £180 This was just a “one off”, not a series of ads, and is an indication of the discounts that can be

obtained Don’t ever pay the first price given without asking the question

Even if these prices don’t appear to be as prohibitive as you may first have thought, most people will still benefit by forming ‘co-op’s’ with other team members, in order to be able to fund an effective campaign

By spreading the cost, you spread the “risk” and can afford to run your ad for 6 – 8 consecutive weeks and increase your chances of getting a

number of quality prospects If you are disappointed with your response after this time, you can revise your ad or withdraw it completely

This method of attracting prospects does work – otherwise you wouldn’t

see the same companies advertising month after month If you notice who

these companies are, learn from them and “mirror” their ads.

Finally, if you are the team leader organising the co-op, make sure the leads are shared out fairly Giving your team the best leads (or even

‘working them’ for them) will encourage them greatly and bond them closer to you

And why wouldn’t you do this?

If they are in your downline, you will get paid from them anyway!

12 Classified Ads

The number of publications where you can place Classified Ads offline is drastically reducing, but is disproportionately increasing online

Classified Ads are still flourishing in some

the newspapers and magazines that we

have already talked about, but the

dedicated Classifieds publication is now

far less common

Exchange and Mart, Daltons Weekly, Loot and Friday Ad are just

some examples of UK Ads magazines that used to have extensive

Business Opportunity listings The latter three publications still do, albeit

on a much more limited scale

On top of this, there are ‘regional’ weekly and monthly Ad newspapers that do the same thing

The main reason for the demise of these publications in promoting

Business Opportunities can only be put down to the increasing dominance

of the internet Not only can online advertising reach more people by

reaching out beyond one geographical area, it is usually completely FREE!

There are literally hundreds of online ad sites, but in the UK a few of the most popular are www.craigslist.com , www.vivastreet.co.uk ,

www.gumtree.com , www.freeads.net , www.ukclassifieds.co.uk and

www.itsmymarket.com
