I Aim:

- Read for general ideas and specific information

- Choose the best suitable words and guessing in context

- Decide on True or False statements

1 Warm-up: Network.

- Ask students to work in groups of 3-4

students

- Ask the students to name some historical

places in Vietnam

- After 2 minutes, the group which has the

longest list will be the winner

2 Before you read:

- Students are required to work in pairs to

answer the questions in the textbook

- Go around to offer help Ss

- Ask some S to answer the questions

- Listen and help S to give correct answers

- Give Ss some new words:

* The new words/phrases are:

+ Confucian ( a): người ủng hộ khổng tử

+ engrave ( v): khắc, trạm trổ

+ stele ( n): bia¸

+ banyan trees ( n): cây đa

+ tortoise ( n): con rùa

- Read each word/phrase 3 times and ask the

students to repeat it

3 While you read:

Task 1: Guessing in context

- Ask the students to read the passage

- Work in groups

- Work in pairs

- Some S answer the questions

" The chart shows the number of visitor arrivals to Vietnam from the USA, France and Australia in 2001 and 2002 The statistics were

provided by Vietnam National Administration of Tourism It is clear from the chart that the number of visitors to Vietnam from the USA, France and Australia in 2002 is higher than that in 2001 According

to the chart, the USA had the biggest number of visitors to Vietnam with 230,470 visitors in 2001 and 259,967

in 2002 France ranked second with 99,700 visitors in 2001 and 111,546

in 2002 "
