LANGUAGE FOCUS

I OBJECTIVES:

1 language skills:

_ Identifying the sounds / I / and / i : /

_ Reviewing the present and past simple tenses as well as adverbs of frequency

language knowledge:

By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

_ be more confident pronouncing sounds / I / and / i :/

_ be better at using the present and past simple tenses and adverbs of frequency

II METHOD : Integrated, mainly communicative

III.TEACHING AIDS: textbooks

IV PROCEDURE:

1 Warm –up - (5’)

Categorising

Give out 10 to 15 words and goetstudents to put

them under appropriate heading:

Adverb of

manner

Adverb of place

Adverb of time

Adverbs: tomorrow, usually ,carefully, often

beautifully, always ,hardly ever ,now ,then ,here

,there, well, badly ,sometimes

2 Pronunciation : (10’)

Demonstrate the sounds / I/ and / i:/ by

pronouncing them clearly and slowly

Help Ss to distinguish these two sounds

Instruct the way to pronounce:

- /i:/ :open your mouth very little to make

Ss work in groups

Ss listen and repeat

- /i:/ is a long sound

- /I/ first practice the sound /i:/ Then open

your mouth a little more

- / I / is a short sound

Ask Ss to work in pairs and practice sentences

Go around and provide help when necessary

3 Grammar and vocabulary (20’)

Exercise 1:Review the present simple tense

Ask Ss to work in pairs to discuss the form and

use of the present simple tense

Call on some Ss to answer the questions;

When do we use this tense?

What adverbs of frequency does it go with?

Get Ss to do exercise 1 individually

Ask Ss to compare the answers with a friend

Call on Ss to read the complete passage

Give correct answers

4 Exercise 2 (10’)

_Revision of adverbs of frequency

Use: Adverbs of frequency show how often

something happens

Position: We put adverbs of frequency

- in front of ordinary verb

We never go to bed late

- after auxiliary verb if there is

He doesn’t usually read newspapers after

dinner

Ask Ss to do exercise 2

Call on some Ss to read aloud their sentences to

class

5 Exercise 3 (10’)

Revision of the past simple tense

Use: We use the past simple to describe a

complete action or situation in the past

Ss work in pairs

Correct answers of exercise1
