Activity 1 Instructions
Trang 6Advice: Cut out the cards and , if possible, laminate them so you can use them many times Rules:
1 One student comes to the front of the class and introduces the activity using the
sentence “I’m going to speak about my brother’s/ sister’s/ family’s, etc plans for next holidays” Then, slowly, he/she starts reading the clues about the city the other
students have to guess You can give points like this:
• Guessed after the 1st clue: 5 points (nearly impossible!)
• Guessed after the 2nd clue: 4 points
• Guessed after the 3rd clue: 3 points, etc
2 If a student only guesses the country and not the city, give him/her 1 point, no matter after which clue it has been guessed But only if after all the 5 clues nobody manages to guess the city
3 Encourage your students to be patient and listen to at least 2 or 3 clues (unless they are completely sure of their guess), to avoid them telling cities and countries at random
4 If a student says the wrong country or city, he/she cannot try again until the next card
is read
VARIATION:
Instead of reading the clues on the cards, your students can practice asking questions to guess the mysterious city Some examples can be the ones below:
1 Who is going to go on holiday? (This is the only WH-question they can ask All the others must be Yes/No questions to make the activity more challenging.)
2 Are you going to visit any museums?
3 Are you going to speak Italian?
4 Is it going to be a long journey?
5 Are you going to buy any souvenirs?
6 Are you going to travel to somewhere in Europe?
7 Are you going to see any shows?
8 Is your sister going to drink tea?
9 Are you and your friends going to go to the beach?
10.etc
Encourage your students to think about other questions and to pay attention to the subject in each case, e.g If I’m going to speak about my sister, they have to ask questions in the 3rd
person singular
If they are not able to guess the city after having asked a high number of Yes/No-questions, allow them to try asking some Wh-ones
The student who guesses the city, wins the card The student with the most cards at the end is the winner
