CONDITIONAL SENTENCES TYPE 1, SHOULD

I AIM :

Students are able to

- Review the form and use conditional sentences type 1

- Use conditional sentences type1 correctly to solve applying exercises

2 Vocabulary : Words appear in the exercise

III TECHNIQUE :

- Put the verbs in brackets into the correct form

- Choose the correct answer

 CONDITIONAL SENTENCES TYPE 1

II LANGUAGE CONTENT :

1 Presentation: ( 15 mns)

CONDITIONAL SENTENCES TYPE 1:

FORM:

S + will + V(bare inf ) +… If + S + V(-s/-es) +……

USE : The first conditional sentence is used to express a possible condition and a probable result in the future.

Examples:

1 If I find her address, I will send her an invitation

2 If Mary doesn’t feel better tomorrow, she will see a doctor

NOTES :Instead of the Future Simple tense in the main clause, we can use:

1 CAN + V (bare infinitive) : to indicate permission or ability.

E.g: If you have a headache, you can stay at home to rest

2 MAY/ MIGHT + V (bare infinitive) : to indicate possibility.

E.g: If we start at 9.00, we may be late for the meeting

3 MUST + V (bare infinitive) : to indicate necessity.

E.g: If you want to do that job, you must have a university degree

4 SHOULD + V (bare infinitive) : to give advice.

E.g: If you want to lose weight, you should eat less meat

5 Simple present tense : to indicate obvious real.

Eg: If you boil ice, it turns into water,

SHOULD: is used to make recommendation or give advice

Form: S + SHOULD (not) + V(bare infinitive)……

should not = shouldn’t

E.x: People with high cholesterol should eat low fat food.

Sarah shouldn’t smoke so much It’s not good for her health.

2 Practice : (25 mns)

 Exercise 1: Give the correct form of the verbs in brackets:
