 CONDITIONAL SENTENCES TYPE 1

II LANGUAGE CONTENT :

 CONDITIONAL SENTENCES TYPE 1:

FORM:

S + will + V(bare inf ) + If + S + V(-s/-es) +…

USE : The first conditional sentence is used to express

a possible condition and a probable result in the future.

Examples:

1 If I find her address, I will send her an invitation

2 If Mary doesn’t feel better tomorrow, she will see

a doctor

NOTES : Instead of the Future Simple tense in the

main clause, we can use:

1 CAN + V (bare infinitive) : to indicate permission

or ability

I AIM :

- Review conditional sentences of three types

- Use these grammars correctly to solve applying exercises

II LANGAUGE CONTENT :

5 Grammar : Conditional sentences

6 Vocabulary : Words appear in the exercise

Teacher’s and Students’

- T divides the class into two

groups and explains the game

- Ss work in pairs to write a

half of conditional sentence

type 2 (Ss write into small

pieces of paper)

- Then, T collects Ss.’ papers

and choose randomly a half of

the sentences from group A and

the other from group B and

reads them aloud to the class

- T writes some examples on

the board

- T has Ss retell the form of

conditional sentences of three

types

small board to summarize

Game: Matching

Group A : Make if-clause of conditional sentence type 2 Group B : Make main clause of conditional sentence type 2

Example:

If I were a miss world, I’d buy a dog.

If I won a lottery, I would cry a lot.

If I had a lot of money, I would marry Bi-Rain

(The aim of this game is to make fun because themeanings of the halves of sentences may not appropriate)

1 Conditional sentence type 1 : Instead of using

will/ can / may/ must + V (bare inf), we can use the Simple present tense to indicate obvious real Eg: If you boil ice, it turns into water.

2 Inversion in conditional sentences type 2 and 3

E.g: If I were rich, I’d help the poor (= Were I rich,

I’d help the poor.)

If I had known her, I’d have made friend withher

(= Had I known her, I’d have made friend with

her.)

3 Using of conditional sentences type 2 and 3

E.g: He smokes too much, that’s why his coughgets serious  If he didn’t smoke too much, his

cough wouldn’t get serious (present situation  conditional sentence type 2)

Tam was fined because he drove a motorbikewithout a license  If Tam hadn’t driven amotorbike without a license, he wouldn’t have

been fined (past situation  conditional sentence type 3)
