I Types of Essay:

Có nhiều cách phân loại Essays khác nhau nhưng tựu chung có những loại Essays chính

như sau:

II Structure of An Essay:

Tùy theo người viết mà một bài văn có thể bao gồm 3, 4, 5, 6… đoạn văn Tuy nhiên,một bài văn chuẩn, đẹp, cân đối thường là 5 đoạn ( 1 đoạn Mở bài + 3 đoạn Thân bài + 1đoạn Kết bài) , mỗi đoạn tối thiểu 5 câu (Topic sentence + Explanation + Example +

Evidence + Concluding Sentence) như sau:

1 Introduction:

a Hook:

- Hook is to get readers’ attention and make them want to read the essay You

can do this through one of the followings

- Hook “mồi nhử” được dùng để thu hút người đọc, khiến họ thích đọc bài văn

của mình Bạn có thể dùng một trong những cách sau để tạo “Hook” cho phần

mở bài

 Tell a story: Dẫn một mẫu chuyện ngắn

 Ask a question: Đặt một câu hỏi

 Give a statistic: Nêu số liệu thống kê

 Express an anecdote: Diễn tả một giai thoại

 Cite a quotation: Trích dẫn một câu nói

 Generalization: Khái quát hóa vấn đề

b Explanation of opening, leading into Thesis Statement:

- Sau khi bạn thu hút người đọc bằng “Hook” thì bạn bắt đầu trả lời hay giải

thích “Hook” của mình một cách rõ ràng để dẫn vào luận đề (Thesis

Statement)

- Luận đề, nằm cuối đoạn mở bài, sẽ quyết định phần thân bài trong bài văn củabạn gồm bao nhiêu đoạn văn Giả sử luận đề của bạn gồm 3 ý, thì phần thânbài của bài văn sẽ gồm 3 đoạn

2 Body Paragraph 1 : Một đoạn bao gồm những ý sau

a Topic Sentence (pertaining to Reason/Theme #1):

- Câu chốt trong đoạn văn nằm ở đầu đoạn văn thứ nhất sẽ nêu bật luận điểmthứ nhất trong Thesis Statement ở phần mở bài

b Explanation:

- Bạn sẽ giải thích luận điểm này rõ ràng bằng cách đưa ra dẫn chứng hay ví dụA và giải thích dẫn chứng đó một cách chi tiết

- Ngoài ra bạn cũng có thể nêu thêm chứng cứ B (nếu có) để làm tăng sứcthuyết phục cho luận điểm của mình

c Mini-conclusion only about the Reason/Theme#1:

- Chỉ với một câu kết ngắn gọn sẽ làm cho người đọc hiểu rằng đoạn văn 1 đãchấm dứt

3 Body Paragraph 2:

- Đoạn này sẽ nói về luận điểm thứ hai trong Thesis Statement Bạn hãy triển

khai giống Body Paragraph 1

4 Body Paragraph 3:

- Đoạn này sẽ nói về luận điểm thứ ba trong Thesis Statement Bạn vẫn triển

khai giống Body Paragraph 1

5 Conclusion:

- Including a restatement of the Thesis Statement to summarize the three mainpoints from the bodies of the paper Then, give out a final statement to givereaders a signal that the essay has come to an end This final statement might beone of the following:

- Phần kết luận bao gồm việc khẳng định lại Luận đề để tóm tắt lại những luận

điểm trong phần thân bài Sau đó đưa ra câu kết để cho đọc giả biết rằng bài văn

đã kết thúc Câu kết này có thể được viết theo một trong các cách sau:

 Ask a provocative question: Đặt một câu hỏi mở

 Use a quotation: Nêu một trích dẫn

 Evoke a vivid image: Gợi lên một hình ảnh sinh động

 Call for some sort of action: Kêu gọi mọi người cùng hành động

 End with a warning: Đưa ra một cảnh báo

 Suggest results or consequences: Nêu lên một kết cục hay hâu quả

- Tuyệt đối tránh nêu thêm một luận điểm nào nữa ở phần kết bài ngoài 3 luận điểmđã nêu

Being bilingual or multilingual is now considered to be a great advantage to almost everyone With the advance in technology

and facility, children nowadays have a chance to expose to foreign languages at very early ages It is claimed that foreign languages should be introduced since kindergarten as there would be more benefits children can derive further in their life However, there are also certain drawbacks of this early instruction

First and foremost, the advantages of learning a foreign language are apparently recognisable in the era of globalization Foreign

languages, especially those which are internationally used, are

considered the most powerful tool for anybody who masters it In

details, teaching languages at an early age would prepare a good lingual foundation and reduce the time taken to be competent in particular languages Moreover, as children are taught foreign

languages, they will be more curious about the outer world, where there are people, cultures and habits differing from them This will encourage young generation to travel later in their life, broadening ones’ mind about the world

On the other hand, the negative side of early teaching foreign

languages should also be regarded To explain further, since children are not fully developed both physically and mentally by the time they go to kindergarten, instructing other languages beside their mother tongue would confuse their mind, causing deficiency in

functioning languages Furthermore, the value of native language would be damaged as young children realize the importance of

foreign languages, which may lead to the ignorance of their original culture when they grow up This would be highly detrimental to any nation’s entity

In general, instructing foreign languages is undoubtedly beneficial to young children, preparing them for their future education and social life However, in my opinion, it should be at the right time and with appropriate methods so as to derive the best benefit and avoid

unwanted negative impacts to our young generation

Cấu trúc & cách triển khai một đoạn văn viết bằng tiếng Anh

Thông thường một đoạn văn viết bằng tiếng Anh có độ dài dao động trong khoảng 100 đến 150 từ (words)

Trong một đoạn văn chuẩn thường phải có câu chủ đề (topic sentence) Trong câu chủ đề phải có hai phần:

chủ đề (topic) và ý chính (controlling idea)

Thông thường câu chủ đề là câu mở đầu đoạn văn Mặc dù trong cách viết tiếng Anh, câu chủ đề còn có

thể có các vị trí khác trong đoạn văn, nhưng để an toàn và không tự làm khó mình, khi thi chúng ta nên sử dung cách viết với câu chủ đề là câu đầu tiên

Khi đã có câu chủ đề, ta phải tìm ý để có thể triển khai ý chính Việc tìm ý không quá phức tạp Thí sinh chỉ cần tự đặt ra những câu hỏi liên quan đến câu chủ đề sau đó tự trả lời chúng Những câu hỏi này thường bắt đầu bằng các từ nghi vấn (question words) như What, When, Where, Why, How

Những câu trả lời cho các câu hỏi trên sẽ được sử dụng như supporting sentences (các câu văn chứng

minh, diễn giải ý chính trong câu chủ đề)

Khi đã có các supporting sentences, người viết chỉ cần ráp nối chúng lại thì sẽ có một đoạn văn hoàn chỉnh Tuy nhiên, mấu chốt ở công đoạn này là teen phải biết sắp xếp các câu văn theo một trật tự nhất định chứ không phải "có gì viết nấy"

Cách xắp xếp supporting sentences trong một đoạn văn:

Tùy theo đề bài, người viết có thể xắp xếp supporing sentences theo 1 trong các trật tự dưới đây:

1/ Từ các chi tiết quan trọng nhất đến ít quan trọng nhất

2/ Từ các chi tiết ít quan trọng nhất đến chi tiết quan trọng nhất (ngược với cách 1)

3/ Theo trật tự thời gian (cái gì xảy ra trước kể trước, cái gì xảy ra sau kể sau)

4/ Theo trình tự của công việc phải làm (ví dụ như bạn đang hướng dẫn người khác nấu cơm thì bạn sẽ chỉ

họ làm theo các bước: Thứ nhất, lấy gạo bỏ vào nồi Thứ hai, vo gạo Thứ ba, bỏ nồi vào nồi cơm điện (nếu nấu bằng nồi cơm điện) Thứ tư, cắm phích vào ổ điện Thứ năm, bật công tắc nấu Cuối cùng, chờ khoảng

20 đến 25 phút thì cơm chín

5/ Theo trình tự không gian Thường trật tự này chỉ được áp dụng trong một đoạn văn tả quang cảnh/nơi chốn Ví dụ như đề bài yêu cầu bạn tả góc học tập của mình Trường hợp này bạn có thể bắt đầu từ bất kể vị trí nào: từ ngoài vào trong, từ trong ra ngoài, từ trái sang phải, từ phải sang trái, từ dưới lên trên, từ trên xuống dưới tùy theo góc độ mà bạn quan sát để mô tả

Cuối cùng, bạn có thể kết thúc đoạn văn bằng một câu kết (concluding sentence) Thông thường câu kết được thực hiện bằng cách viết lại câu chủ đề theo một dạng khác mà thôi Tuy nhiên, câu kết không nhất thiết luôn phải có trong đoạn văn, nghĩa là nếu bạn tự tin mình viết tốt thì kết bài với câu kết, còn không thì không

sử dung câu này
