Lesson 1: GETTING STARTED + LISTEN AND READ P.72

1 Warm up: (5 minutes) * Teacher greets and checks the students’ attendance.

- Teacher uses pictures to introduce about the city and the country and then asks

2 Answer the comprehension questions:

Answer key:

d There are no libraries, no movies, no supermarkets, no zoos, etc, to go

e Many remote areas are getting electricity People can now have things like refrigerators and TV, and medical facilities are more accessible

groups Two groups include

students who prefer the city life

and the others include students

who prefer the country life

- To help students practise the present progressive tense to describe changes with get and become.

- To help students listen for details to complete the dialogue

- To develop students’ skills

II Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to talk about changes of

a place and complete the dialogue by listening

III Ways of working: T - WC, pair work, team work, individual work.

IV Materials:

Textbook, pictures in the textbook, word cards, cassette, additional board

V Anticipated problems:

- “Warm up” activity may be difficult for Ss of class 8C

- The lesson may take time

VI Teaching steps:

* Set the scene:

- You were 1.50 meter last year Now you are 1.54 meter

->You are getting taller

- It is getting / becoming darker now

=> We use the present

progressive tense with verb get

/ become to describe changes.
