TRANSITIVE AND INTRANSITIVE VERBS
(Tha động từ và tự động từ)
Trong tiếng Anh động từ thường được chia làm hai loại, transitive verd, là tha động từ (hay còn gọi là ngoại động từ) và intransitive verb, là tự động từ (hay còn gọi là nội động từ) Tha động từ
là những động từ có tân ngữ đi kèm và tự động từ là những động từ không cần có tân ngữ đi kèm Tha động từ thường được ký hiệu là (v.t.)
và tự động từ (v.i.)

INTRANSITIVE VERBS (Nội động từ) là động từ không có túc từ
kèm theo sau vì tự bản thân nó đã có đầy đủ nghĩa rồi
Subject + Intransitive verb
Ex: A large dog appeared.
Subject+ intrasitive verb+ adv / prep
Ex: She works hard
Các động từ sau đây là nội động từ:
• Linking verb: be, look, feel, taste, sound, smell Appear, become, grow, come, turn, go( trở nên) Note : Các đồn từ giác quan look, feel, taste, sound… có thể được theo sau bởi danh từ, lúc đó là là transitive verb
Ex: He tasted the soup
• Các tự động từ có túc từ cùng nghĩa như: live, die, sleep, dream Ex: He lived happily
TRANSITIVE VERBS ( Ngoại động từ) là động từ cần phải có túc từ,
nếu không có thì không có nghĩa đầy đủ Loại động từ này có 2 túc từ trục tiếp: direct object , indirect object
Subject + transitive verb + Object…
Ex: The customers bought a lot of butter.
Note : Ta chỉ có thể đổi những câu có ngoại động từ sang dạng bị động, chứ không thể đổi những câu có nội động từ được
