LESSON PLAN

Name of the lesson : UNIT 6 : AN EXCURSION

GRAMMAR : BE GOING TO & PRESENT CONTINUOUS

Class : 10th form

Aim : By the end of the lesson, students will be able to use BE GOING TO

& PRESENT CONTINUOUS with future meaning

PROCEDURE

I/ WARM - UP

Game : CROSSWORD (slides 3 – 8)

- Class arrangement : The class will be divided into 2 teams

- Instructions : Representatives of each team, one by one, will choose a number (1-5)

and say the job of people in the picture or the movie clip Key letters from the words will form a key phrase below Any team finding the key phrase first will be the winners

1 DANCER

2 NURSE

3 FARMER

4 JOURNALIST

5 FOOTBALLER

- THE KEY PHRASE : FUTURE FORM Leading to the lesson

II/ PRESENTATION

1 Lead - in :

+ Teacher asks ss to observe a picture (slide 11) and answer the questions:

- Does Minh love Lan? - Yes

- What are they thinking about? – About their wedding

- Tell me the date of their wedding – 26th November

- Tell me the place of their wedding party – Morin hotel

- Have they arranged everything for their wedding? – Yes

Ex: a They arranged everything for their wedding

They - (get) married next week

+ Teacher asks ss to complete the sentence with the right form of the verb in bracket

Expected answer key: They are getting married next week

+ Teacher asks ss to observe another picture (slide 12) and answer the questions:

- What’s the girl doing? – She’s crying

- Why is crying? – She’s got a lot of bad marks

- Is she afraid of reaping the class? – Yes

Ex: b I’ve got a lot of bad marks I think I - (repeat) the class

+ Teacher asks ss to complete the sentence with the right form of the verb in bracket

Expected answer key: I think I am going to repeat the class

+ Teacher asks ss to observe a movie clip (slide 13) and answer the questions:

- Is this girl happy? – Yes

- What’s she thinking about? – About dancing

- Does she like it? – Yes

+ Teacher asks ss to complete the sentence with the right form of the verb in bracket

- Call on some random students to read their answers in front of the class

- Feedback and give correct answers

III/ PRACTICE

* Activity 1: Put the verbs in brackets in the present continuous or be going to (slide 17)

- Get ss to work in pair in 2’

- Deliver handouts to each pair

- Teacher goes round the class and help ss when necessary

- Get some random ss read out their sentences

- Feedback and give correct answers in 1’

- Get ss to work in groups of four in 2’

- Deliver handouts to each group

- Teacher goes round the class and help ss when necessary

- Get some ss to write the sentences on the board

- Feedback and give correct answers in 1’

IV/ PRODUCTION

Speaking Game: Funny Music Note ( Slides 20 – 29 )

- Teacher divides the class into 2 teams Representatives of each team, one by one, will choose a topic and a note (1-3); then make a sentence, using the present continuous or be going to, based on the pictures provided respectively One point will be scored for the team having a correct sentence; two points will be scored for the team getting a bonus

- Any team having more points will be the winners
