There are many “ Lenin’s houses” in the world I would like to tell you about one of them It happened in Vietnam the year (5) the year with the French had ended We came to a small village five miles from Vinh The villagers invited us to their homes, gave us a cordial welcome, and showed honours on us They told us how they lived and worked Then they took us to the most important and most respested building in the village – a temple However it turned out that they had not brought us there to meet the saints, but rather to (6) _ us something new in their lives

“ Oh, no” he said “ This temple wasn’t built by saints, nor was it saints who brought stone images of the gods here It was alll done by people Ordinary people These same people brought Lenin’s portrait here, and wrote his words (8) posters, and they read his books No, people do not come here to pray: they come to learn and for advice”
“ Still, it’s strange : Lenin’s room in a temple ”
“ It may seem strange to you , but we don’t find it strange Here, the Vietnamese solve not only religious but also everyday problems And Lenin is now our chief adviser on those problems People are more concerned about this world than the next.”
I was silent for sometimes, thinking “ Here, at the world’s end, in a hut roofed over with coarse matting, sunburnt boys and girls sit on a sand floor, writing his name on paper (9) _ the first time in their life, just as we once did They link all their hopes and aspirations with Lenin I want to say to these children : believe, dream, hope All dreams linked with Lenin and his cause must come true As our dreams have ”

Many, many years later, I understood that exercise – books become so covered with writing that it is impossible to write (10) _ them anymore, and pencils become so worn down to short stubs But the word that Lenin opened up and bequeathed to us is eternal
