APPLYING ISO 14001:2004

Energy System:

• The incandescent bulbs, halogen lamps

• The air conditioner with low performance There is no routine cleaning the air conditioner

• The water heater with electricity consumption

• No automatically lock connect to the room’s electricity

Water system:

• No secondary clock to monitor and control water consumption

• The bathtubs are large => waste water

Architecture: less tree around the hotel

Human awareness:

The majority of employees and also customers do not have the

resources saving behavior because there is no training for employees and even no signboard of environment saving around the hotel

reception hall, Lobby Bar, Restaurant

- 234 40W incandescent bulb with 3W LED lights for bedrooms,

reception hall, restaurant

- 110 40W incandescent bulbs with LED lamp 1.5 W for a reception

- 6 Halogen bulbs 20W to 500W LED at landscape.

Saigon tourist says the application of ISO 14001:2004 helps

• It save 10%-20% on power, 21% on water, and

significantly on waste treatment costs

• The 15 subsidiaries saved VND2.5 billion from March

2002 to September 2003 (including First Hotel)

DIFFICULTIES & LIMITATIONS

- The hotel has been built from the year before , so many solutions made difficult because it affect on the design of the building

structure.

- Managers and technical staff in the hotels often have less time and opportunity to learn about energy-saving measures as well as innovative solutions and idea to minimize the garbage release. 

- Overall, the implementation of environmental protection in

Vietnam tourism industry just stop at economic levels including management solution or technique. 

- The hotel built the resources saving system but still not complete

suggestions or observations as a means of continuing

to improve waste management and recycling

• Install labeled faucets, showerheads, toilets, and

flushing urinals, installing low-flow shower heads and sink aerators where appropriate

=> at least 20 % more water-efficient and perform as well or better than standard models

• Upgrade or retrofit with efficient laundering

• Design water-smart landscapes

• Improve irrigation efficiency by hiring a professional certified to audit an existing system or design and install a water-efficient system

• Cut down on water loss from evaporation, wind, and runoff by replacing existing clock timers with irrigation

controllers

Run an Efficient Kitchen

• Upgrade dishwashers, ice machines, and steam

cookers to ENERGY STAR ® qualified models where appropriate

Reduce at least 10 % by reusing water

throughout cycles

• Look for efficient pre-rinse spray valves, food

disposal systems, combination ovens, steam

kettles, and steam cookers to use significantly less water

Run an Efficient Kitchen

• Consider replacing equipment that typically

discharges water continuously, such as dipper wells

or wok stoves, with more efficient models or turning this equipment off when not in use

•Educate users on proper dishware prep and

loading techniques to reduce the amount of water used

Use recyclable items

Use reusable items such as cloth napkins, glass cups, ceramic dishes, etc with all food and beverage

Recycle old beds and mattresses

Establish a recycling program for employees

Work with a local recycling service provider to set up a program that will generate funds

Administrative: High Quality Paper, Mixed Paper,

Cardboard, bottles, cans and printer toner cartridges

Food service areas: Cans, plastic containers, glass, cardboard, cans and other metals

Public areas: Magazines, newspaper, bottles and cans

Based on the results of the waste assessment, set up appropriate recycling programs in all areas
