Period 114 : Preparation date :31 /3/2008 Unit 14: Lesson : Space Conquest-listening

I Aims :

- By the end of the lesson, the students are able to listen for specific information

- By the end of the lesson, the students are able to listen for general idea

Games: ‘What’s he like?’

- Divide the class into tow groups A and B

-Show SS a picture of a person and ask them

who he is ( Appendix )

( expected : Yuri Gagarin) -Tell the groups to write down as many sentences as possible about Yuri Gagarin – who he was, what he was like

- The group with more correct sentences about him wins the game

-Set a time limit and let SS start the game

-Read the groups’sentences and check with the class

-Declare the winner

- Transition:-‘Yuri was an astronaut What do you think an astronaut must be like? What are some requirements of astronauts?’ The

listening today is about how astronauts are selected

- write down on the board :

- tell SS they are going to listen to a talk about selection in different countries

- Ask SS to listen and complete the table with the information about the countries

-Let SS listen the second time if necessary

- Ask SS to compare answers in pairs

- Go over the answers with the class

-Ask SS to listen again and complete the sentences with the correct information
