UNIT 5: THE MEDIA

Period 30: Speak (page 42)

A.Aim: Practice speaking about the programs on TV

B.Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will able to talk to their

friends about the programs that they like or dislike

C.Teaching aids: Text books

D.Procedure:

Warm-up :* Information transmitting:

- Divide the class into two teams

- choose 6 volunteers from each team

- Get the volunteers to stand in two lines

- Show the first student in each line a sentence (written on a small piece of paper)

You don't like foreign films, do you?

- The first student in each line a sentence to the next person in his/her line

- The second student whispers to the third and so on

- The last student shouts out the sentence then writers it on the board, if it is the same as the sentence teacher shows, that team wins the game

I.Pre-speaking :

* Pre - teach vocabulary

- Violent (adj.): bạo lực(definition: show great physical force)

- documentary (n): tài liệu, phim tài liệu

(definition: something written or printed that gives information)

- information (adj.): giàu thông tin(translation)

* Checking vocabulary: Rub out and Remember

II Revision of tag questions :

- Ask students to complete the dialogue between Lien and Trung (ask them

to keep their books closed)

Lien: You like watching sports, _?

Trung: Not really Some sports are so violent, and I don't _ watching them I prefer documentaries

Lien: I'm the opposite I love sports and seem quite boring to

me

Trung: But you the news, _?

* Answer keys:

II.While speaking :

- Have some students read the dialogue in pairs before class

- Check their pronunciation / intonation of tag questions

- Let students work in pairs to practice the dialogue

- Have students pick out sentences showing agreement and disagreement and ask them to practice

* Agree:

- I prefer documentaries

- I love watching sports

- I enjoy it too

* Disagree:

- Not really

- I don't like watching sports

- I'm the oppposite

- Documentaries seem quite boring to me

III.Post writing

A: Yes, but not often
