ABSTRACT
In recent years, the w o rd “crisis ” has becom e a com m on term tow a rd everybody as its effects can be fo u n d in every w alk o f life Researches show that am ong a ll victims, it is the yo u th that ỉs a ffected the most, especially in term s o f employment There/ore, this
p a p e r is conducted aim ing at explaining how the current econom ic crisis can injluence third-year students ’ career choices a n d fin d in g out their p la n s to increase the
em ployability in to d a y ’s fìe rc e ỉabor market The data collected through survey and other second ary sources are p ro cessed using descriptive analysis a n d correlation technique,
w hỉch prucỉuces three m ạịor findings Firstly, abuut 50% o f íargeí students express their
w ish to change their ỉntended career p la n s through three yea rs stu dying at university Secondly, the m ạịority o f students (95% ) agree that econom ic crisis do have inỷluence on their ca reer plans Specifically, statistical evidence show s that econom ic crisis h a s a
m edium relationship with c a r e e r ’s p erceived aítractiveness a n d w eakly related to students ’ self-effìcacy, which in turn affect students ’ career choices L ast but not least, in order to cope with the situation, about h a lf o f students participating in the survey choose
to continue their study with the hope o f a better econom ic condition w hen they finish The volatility o f students regarding their ow n /u tu re careers show a n eed f o r better an d more thorough consultancy as w ell as career management.

m a rk e d by several b ila te ra l a n d m u ltilateral ag reem en ts as vvell as m e m b ersh ip o f W orld
T rad e O rg an izatio n (W T O ) in 2007 T h e se efforts h as been reco g n ized glob ally and
g reatly co n trib u ted to V ie tn a m ’s b o o m in g pcriod w ith aro u n d 7.6 % g ro w th in G ross
D o m estic P rod u ct (G D P ) p e r an n u tn d u rin g 2000-2008) H o w ev er, h ard sh ip s also com e alo n g w ith ad v an tag es T h e fa c t th at V ietn am ese eco n o m y is tigh tly tie d w ith others in
th e w o rld m akes it v u ln e ra b le w ith c h an g es o ccu rrin g in o th e r countries
A s a result, V ie tn am ese e c o n o m y c an n o t be o b liv io u s to th e w o rld w id e depression startin g in th e u s in 2 0 0 7 It b e g a n w ith c h ea p h o using lo an s o ffered b y b an k s In stead o f

fo u n d in e v ery c o m e r o f ev ery d ay lives O n L u n ar N e w Y e a r in 2 0 1 3 , sev eral com panies
ía ile d to m ak e p aym en ts for th eir staff, resu ltin g in th e tig h t b u d g e t a n d consequently, the
p o o r sp en d in g o f citizen s M o re th an 55,000 sm all a n d m ed iu m en terp rises ceased
o p e ra tin g last y e a r acc o rd in g to o fficial statistics, a n d u n em p lo y m en t is creeping up (T ran , 2 0 1 3 ) It is e stim ate d th a t a ro u n d o n e m illio n p eo p le h a v e lost th e ir jo b s w ithin
2011 a n d 2012 (E b b ig h au sen , 2012) E ven tho ug h g o v e m m e n t h as introduced m any
so lu tio n s to th e e co n o m ic p ro b lem s, p e o p le rem ain sk ep tical ab o u t th e ir effectiveness
T h e re íb re , it can n o t be d en ied th at V ie tn am eco n om ic crisis h as h e av ily in ílu e n c ed the
so ciety , esp ecially th e lab o r forces B ank ru p tcy , lay o f f are n o t u n co m m o n in to d a y ’s situ atio n and they tak e h e av y to ll on fam ilies w ho rely o n one p e rso n ’s salary to m ake
en d s m eet T h is, in tu m , affects fresh g rad u ates w ho are stru g g lin g to find ju s t any jo b ,
n o t to m en tio n jo b s th a t fit w ith th e ir m ajo rs o r ev en h ig h -p a id jo b s M oreover, the
ex istin g im b alan ce in th e lab o r m ark et also w o rsen s th e situ atio n S tu d en ts w h o rush into

b a lan c e sh e e t pro b lem s, a n d th e n e ed fo r larg e sca le g o v e m m e n t su p p o rt (C laessens and

Firstly, in term s o f fm an cial im p licatio n s, it is sa id th a t íĩn a n c ia l c rise s h av e large eco n o m ic co sts a n d a re v ery likely to b e follow ed b y recessio n s (C laessen s and K ose, 2012) N o t to m en tio n , in m o st cases, th e recessio ns elic ited by íĩn an cial c rises often cause m u ch d eep er a n d m o re lo n g -lastin g im pacts o n th e eco n o m y th an th e n o rm al ones
as o f b u sin ess cycles T h e íìn an cial re su lts o f a crisis can be o b serv ed in fo u r p articular areas:
• B o th cred it a n d a sse t p rices (e x ch an g e rates, e q u ity a n d house p ric e s) h av e the ten d en cy to d im in ish o r p o ssess a v e ry low grovvth rate in th e tim e o f crises This pro b lem , in tu m , m ay ra ise th e co st o f e q u ity a n d c o n se q u e n tly , d iscourage
co n su m p tio n (Issin g , 2009)
• B an k s and o th e r íin a n c ia l in stitu tio ns m ay h a v e to face w ith th e sh o rta g e o f credit
