INTRODUCTION

4, Rationale of the study

Seafood is an important economic industry which plays a vital role in providing food for humans In Vietnam, it is considered as a key economic sector of the country that it has made significant contribution in export field, jobs creation and increased

foreign exchange earnex, Especially, since Vietnam joined the World Trade Organization

(WTO) and plenty of free trade agreements (FTA), to ensure the integration of the seafood sector, the Party and State have had many relevant programs and policies to

support the development of the seafood sector Thus, the seafood sector had many certain

positive changes and achicvements Vietnamese seafood export tumover increased from 1,478 million USD in 2000 to 6.573 million USD in 2015, thereby contributing significantly to Vietnam's economic development and turning Victnam into one of $ largest scafood exporters in the world Now, the Vietnamese seafood products have been

appeared in 164 countries

Recently, Vietnam has joined many free trade agreements, in which the most

outstanding and noticeable ones are the ‘lrans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership

(TPP), Vietnam - Korea free trade agreement (WKFTA}, Vietuam-EU Free wade agreement (EVFTA) etc These free trade agreements are expected to bring about not only many opportunities, but also challenges for Vietnam’s economy in general and the seafood sector in particular

In fact, Vietnamese seafood has not yet really confirmed its competitive position

in the international market In recent years, the growth of seafoad’s export has achieved a high jevel, but this growth bas still depended mainly on exploiting the available natural

advantages, cost advantage and was from exploiting new markets In other word, these

advantages are not considered as sustainable advantages of Victnamesc scafoad’s industry

To obtain sustainable competitive advantages for Victnam’s seafood, the industry need to have overall direction and solutions to improve its competitiveness The
