2 RESEARCH CONTENT 2.1 Theoretical basis
The theoretical basis of the experience initiative "Measures to improvevocabulary learning for 10th grade students" includes the following educationaltheories and principles:
Principle of active learning: This principle encourages students to activelyparticipate in the learning process, actively seek knowledge, develop skills, andsolve problems
Deep learning theory: This theory states that students need to deeplyunderstand the content of their studies and have the ability to apply knowledge toreal-life situations
Trang 5Interactive learning theory: This theory states that students need to interactwith different objects to develop skills and knowledge.
Diversification theory of learning: This theory states that students need todiversify their learning methods to develop their learning abilities
Sustainable learning theory: This theory states that students need to have sustainable learning abilities, that is, the ability to maintain knowledge and
learning skills over a long period of time
These principles and theories are applied in designing measures to
improve vocabulary learning for 10th grade students Specifically, this initiative creates a positive learning environment, enhances interaction between students and different objects, diversifies learning methods, and ensures sustainable
learning abilities for students
2.2 Practical basis
The practical basis of the experience initiative "Measures to improve
vocabulary learning for 10th grade students" is based on the practical and relatedrequirements of vocabulary learning for 10th grade students
Currently, the method of teaching vocabulary to students is mainly torepeatedly write down vocabulary and structures This teaching and learningmethod has been applied for a long time and is popular in many schools
Focuses on important vocabulary: Students can choose important vocabulary to write down and practice regularly, thereby improving their vocabulary skills in the target language
This teaching method is quite simple, does not require much in terms ofphysical resources, and is easy to implement in various conditions
*Disadvantages
Although the method of teaching vocabulary to students mainly by writingdown vocabulary and structures repeatedly has many advantages as mentionedabove, it also has some disadvantages compared to other methods, such as:
Teaching and learning in this way is often boring and does not stimulate students'learning interest
Students often do not fully understand the vocabulary, confuse similar words, and use word forms inaccurately
Does not promote creative thinking skills: This method does not encouragestudents to develop their own creative thinking skills Repeating vocabulary andstructures without creativity or personal contribution can reduce students' interestand motivation to learn
Trang 6Does not focus on the purpose of using vocabulary: Focusing only onwriting down vocabulary and structures does not guarantee that students will beable to use them in real-life situations This can make students only remembervocabulary and structures without knowing how to use them in reality.
Difficult to expand vocabulary: Focusing only on the selected vocabulary towrite down repeatedly can make students ignore new vocabulary and not expandtheir vocabulary
2.3 Solution
STEP 1: ASSESSMENT AND CLASSIFICATION OF STUDENTS.
Assessment is not to focus on students' achievements but to help teachersidentify their strengths and weaknesses From there, appropriate measures aretaken for each group of students
From the beginning of the school year 2024-2025, when I received the class, Iconducted a survey and investigation of the students in class 10C5, 10C6 in myresponsible grade level, then divided them into groups according to their levels ofability: Excellent - Good, Average, Weak - Poor From this, I knew the level ofeach group of students to facilitate teaching and assigning tasks in the future
STEP 2: DETERMINE THE PRINCIPLES OF VOCABULARY
TRAINING FOR STUDENTS.
The world of vocabulary is very vast and extensive, which makes thevocabulary rich in imagery and good for children's thinking and association whilelearning Teaching English vocabulary to students needs to take advantage of thisnovelty while still being familiar to help them quickly grasp and remember moredeeply Therefore, teachers need to understand the following principles:
Learning while playing: The prerequisite condition to make students focus
on what we teach them is to make them feel comfortable and happy when learning
Explain with images or stories when teaching words: Due to their limitedknowledge and stringing ability, new knowledge coming to students is oftennatural, so they will not feel confused even if they do not understand In terms ofteaching, language is not the focus of learners' attention; they are more interested
in "images" and remember them better

Trang 7Create interest in learning English and turn it into their favorite interest.Students only like to learn what is related to what they love, and when they focus
on what they like, that interest will take up all their time and attention during theday
Keep it simple and easy to understand at the maximum level: The age range
of students from 15-18, the brain hemisphere is still developing, so students do notlike complex and vague things
STEP 3: EFFECTIVE VOCABULARY PRACTICE METHODS.
1 Using mind maps
Teachers can use mind maps to help students learn English vocabularyeffectively Here are some steps to create a useful mind map for teaching Englishvocabulary:
Mind map for vocabulary learning
Step 1: Choose a vocabulary word to learn and write it in the center of a piece ofpaper or a similar board
Step 2: Draw branches from the center to represent different aspects of the word. For example, if your vocabulary word is "house," you can draw branches torepresent different rooms in the house (bedroom, living room, kitchen, bathroom)
or parts of the house (door, window, roof)
Step 3: Write related words to your vocabulary on the branches For example, ifyou are looking for vocabulary related to "bedroom," you can write words like
"bed," "closet," "lamp," "pillow," "blanket" on the corresponding branch
Step 4: Use color and images to highlight vocabulary words You can use images
or icons to represent vocabulary words and help students easily remember them.Step 5: Use this mind map as a reference tool when learning and practicingEnglish vocabulary Students can use the mind map to check their vocabulary andpractice memorization
With this learning method, students not only improve their ability to remembersynonyms or learn phrases easily, but also make progress quickly in expandingtheir vocabulary The established connections help you have a more logical
Trang 8thinking process, making review easier Moreover, it also helps reduce stress inlearning Simplifying vocabulary knowledge.
For example: When teaching Unit 5: Inventions - Grade 10, to help studentsremember the vocabulary related to the just-learned topic, the teacher asks them todraw a mind map, and assigns specific tasks for each student group
For Group 1 (good students): The teacher provides keywords and asks students tocomplete the mind map on their own
For Group 2 (average students): The teacher provides keywords and additionalsuggested words on the branches
For Group 3 (below-average students): The teacher provides keywords, additionalsuggested words, and some developing words on the branches
Then, the teacher requires all three groups to complete the mind map according tothe assigned tasks within a certain period of time
Here are some illustrations of using mindmap ( the first semester)
