CHAPTER 2 CULTURE OF ORGANISATION

During my two-week-internship at Tcorp, I was given a chance to intern in Business Department, in which I had learnt about Tcorp’s products and services, tried writing

a telesale script and handling supposed situations when we inform customers about our products and services However, the most unforgettable thing in Tcorp is its workplace culture, especially Business Department’s one

The main type of organisational culture in Tcorp is the mixture between Person Culture and Market Culture, whose characteristics are personal focus, competition and growth

1 Market Culture

Market culture are resuls-oriented, with a focus on competition, achievement, and

“getting the job done” (ArtsFWD, 2013) This is the way to describe exactly how people in Tcorp’s Business Department work - their salary depends on their key performance indicator, or KPI for short

This culture does not only motivate officers to work smart and hard but also be able

to assess properly their capabilities Because of that, all staffs in organisation have

to complete their work in the right way - with the right result - to avoid any mistake, which can be affect their KPI It is the reason why all tasks have to be completed in sequence For example, before signing a loan agreement with a customer, Business Dept officer has to bring deposits back to office and confirm it, even though meeting destination is far from the building

Trang 7

the way Tcorp’s people make its environment become comfortable Tcorp staffs are still friendly and helpful

On the first day, my friends and I had an opportunity to meet a member of the Board

of Directors and several officers who are responsible for departments in company Our mentor in this internship was Mr Le Dang Thanh, a member of the Business Department as weel as an assistant of the Board of Directors, who helped us everytime we faced difficult problems or questions In the first week, he trained us with fundamental knowledge about Tcorp, especially its main products, which we used to complete our intership tasks, and in the last week, we were given a chance to introduce products to customers and handle several situations happening in this process Other staffs still made us feel comfortable when they naturally communicate

to us as we were parts of them, even though we were not really

3 Other Rules

In addition to market culture and person culture, in Tcorp, there are several rules making its organisational culture Some of them as follows:

a) Costume

In Tcorp, there is no uniform, but all staffs have to wear white shirt with dark colour trousers or skirt in Monday It is an extremly reasonable rule that people start a new working week with professional appearance, which can motivate and inspire them to work professionally In the rest of the week, they are allowed to wear anything as long as it is polite and discreet enough for office, which makes their environment become more comfortable that they do not feel like working under extreme pressure However, because one of main works of the Business Department is meeting customers, staffs in this department have to wear white shirt with dark colour troursers or skirt everyday to make good impression to customers

Trang 8

b) Checking attendance

Staffs in Tcorp have to check attendance twice a day when they start and end their work day, except Business Dept ones It is because staffs in this department usually

go out to meet customers many times in a day, so they have to check attendance only one time when they come to office This rule show the way employers in Tcorp manage and take care of their employees, which facilitate their work

CHAPTER 3 CAREER OPTIONS

Managing to find a suitable job and doing it effectively is always a challenging problem with most of students In my situation, after the time interning in the Business Department at Tcorp, I realised that there are more options for students majoring in finance and banking than I though, some of them as follows:

¥ Financial Planner: Finance majors learn about a variety of investment

vehicles, and this knowledge can help financial planners to advise clients about how to manage their finances Finance majors can decipher trends in the securities markets and apply this perspective to their planning sessions

¥ Financial Analyst: Financial analysts research stocks, bonds, companies, and

industries to assist bankers, investors, and corporate finance officers with mergers, acquisitions, and stock/bond offerings, as well as corporate expansions and restructuring They can capitalise on their finance major training as they dissect financial statements and other financial data

¥ Investment Consultant: Investor consultant prepare and present financial

information about their company or corporate clients to investors, analysts, and business media Finance majors with strong writing, organizational, and communication skills can thrive in this role

¥ Budget Consultant: Budget consultant apply principles of finance to projects

and proposals in the business, educational, governmental, and not-for-profit sectors, they analyse budgets and evaluate the financial impact of continuing ventures and new ventures Finance majors develop the essential analytical and communication skills needed to become a successful budget analyst

¥ Portfolio Manager: A portfolio is an overall look at the status of the

investments made by a client or company, without going into depth over each individual investment A career in portfolio management will let you make

Trang 10

decisions about the investment policies of an organization, while simultaneously allocating assets for institutions and individuals to match their needs

¥ Accountant: Just like accoutants, finance and banking majors learn to present

financial information to clients and colleagues by using charts, graphs, and other visual aids Students studying finance and banking are taught to construct, interpret, and critique financial statements while completing the accounting component of their studies

¥ Salesperson: Students majoring in finance and banking can work as a

salesperson for financial and bank’s products such as loan agreement, bonds, debit and credit card,… Their knowledge about these fields is an advantage that they can understand these products clearly, so they are able to handle more situations in saling process and answer most of customers’ questions about products
